Hi

I am taking femoston, an oral hormone replacement therapy. There are two types, conti and sequi, and I am taking the sequi.

I also sometimes take modalert.

I am wondering if it is ok to take these two together.

I checked online but while there seems to be an interaction the information is very vague.

thanks

i strongly believe that there is no problem taking these two drugs together based on their pharmacology.

have you sought any professional counsel regarding this interaction? the reason i ask this is that both of these drugs have complex mechanisms of action and there is a slight possibility that my advice may be incorrect. i have done some research though and there seems to be some clinical studies done on menopausal women in the use of adjunctive hormone replacement therapy with modafinil with absolutely no issues, and even positive results.

Hi @baooozs

I have not sought professional advice on these as I am taking the modafinil un-prescribed so the doctor does not know aobut it.

Your research sounds really interesting, do you have a link I could read or something please?

thanks

actually that study isn't what i thought it was. i read it more carefully. however, i did do more research and came up with this:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9682182

it doesn't exactly tell the whole story because there are a lot other more hormones involved.

can you tell me what interaction you've found. perhaps then i can help you better with some more research.

Hi

I am not getting an interaction as such.
I have been taking hrt for flushes and sweats and was wondering if the modafinil I was taking was negating the effects of the oestradiol in the hrt. The hrt was not getting rid of the flushes and sweats.
Since posting this, however, I have realised that my flushes and sweats may not be caused by menopause, but some other problem which doctors have not yet picked up, as I assumed I was menopausal.
I'm going to go to the doctor soon to find out what the real cause of my flushing and sweating is.
