n the latest fine example of Republican high-pocrisy when it comes to cannabis, a high-ranking GOP legislator in Rhode Island is squirming after being charged with driving under the influence of marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession of "drug paraphernalia."

An embarrassing pot bust would be bad enough for any politician, but this guy -- Rep. Robert Watson -- is a real piece of work who is remembered for making offensive anti-drug, anti-gay and anti-immigrant remarks, reports Kase Wickman at The Raw Story.

Watson was pulled over at a police checkpoint on Friday, according to East Haven police. Officers noted a "strong odor of marijuana" coming from the nervous Republican's car, and charged him with possession and driving under the influence after a search.

The loud-mouthed, bigoted legislator seems to have suddenly gotten a lot quieter.

But his office finally released a statement on Monday in which he denied he was driving under the influence. He claimed he was in Connecticut to help a friend move, and was driving home from dinner when he was stopped.

"Trace evidence of marijuana was discovered and I was charged with operating under the influence, a charge I vehemently deny," Watson said in a prepared statement.

lol busted. Horrible when it happens to you, but this guy needed a reality check. What a bitch though for sticking to his republican guns. SHOW SOME BALLS SIR! (Although DRIVING around smoking pot is PRETTY F'N RETARDED WHEN YOU ARE IN OFFICE!!!) This guy should be punished for driving messed up, but possession, paraphernalia.. all that is bulll shit.. He should be a man and say yes, he made a mistake using and driving, that is not responsible, but using something less damaging than alcohol should not be a crime.

This guy really IS a straight edge uber-republican- And maybe he WAS just helping his friend move and some asshole cop hit him with a ton of charges over some shake on the dash board or something. (Let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt here in this case). If that is the situation than this story still deserves a lot of attention because that would show how even the most straight laced anti-drug hyper-religious asshole can get sucked into this bullshit war on drugs and have his life harmed.


Honestly, I don't know which scenario is best for 'the movement'. What do you guys think? Looks win/win to me either way.

this made me lol quite well.

after watching so many episodes of Cops and hearing the 'it was my friends who was just in the car' defence being used a million times, you'd think he'd man up and admit it.

i know in australia many politicians have been caught say drink driving and most of them will release a statement admitting it 100% and quite a few are prosecuted as per normal to a degree, where as others just get a lesser punishment with one of the main reasons being something along the lines of honesty and counseling or some shit.
makes you wonder if there is a certain amount being caught and publicly acknowledged, it makes you wonder how many get off with no charge or acknowledgment.

Please Vote for Me It documents a experiment done in a grade 3 class in china where democracy was tested out. I understand if your skeptical ( i was when my gf told me to watch it) but whatch the first part at least and im sure you'll want to check out the rest. These chinese kids are ruthless.

This is one of the incredibly rare instances when I smile about someone being arrested for drugs. I really wonder how people who so vocally push their super conservative morals on others but get caught doing the shit they preach against live with themselves.

Let me overgeneralize and say they get high off of the power.

Don't lock this guy up for the pot, just for the bad driving practices.

Maybe he'll run on the Democrat next time.
 
I'd love if he got punished as harshly as possible, after all he is one of the people who helped to maintain such situation where people get punished for possession and consumption of a plant. This is what he wanted, let him experience the consequences in first person!
