Ok, I've heard (from here, then looked up elsewhere) that when you smoke weed it makes you dream less, and lately I've been interested in trying lucid dreaming, how long would I have to stop smoking to be able to dream/lucid dream like normal again? (and if it matters I've been smoking for about a year and 3 months, not daily but pretty damn regularly)

Weed causes me to forget all my dreams and never remeber shit. You said u smoked for about 1 year and 3 months regularly, i've been a daily smoker for the past 4-5 years and all it takes for me is one or two days with no weed and I can remeber my dreams too vivid even. I've smoked so long that I forgot how intense dreams can be. I once bailed out on my buddy on an awsome rave because I had a dream the night before involving feces.

I say stop smoking one or two days but what ur saying is u want lucid dreaming which is a very nice state of mind that even I have acheived before and I'm no buddist. Lucid dreaming is where u can control ur dreams and be half awake since your the one in action in the dreams, u can check it out on erowid.

This is very true. If I quit smoking for a couple days, I start having very vivid dreams every night. Usually I dream often but can barely remember my dreams ( I always smoke before bed). But when i abstain from the ganja... full on crazy dreams begin, and sometimes they are so fucked up. It is cool being able to remember your dreams but can be unsettling

I would say after a week or so of not smoking you will have more vivid dreams and be able to remember more of them. Though I do believe this a very subjective issue... everybody is going to be different

lucid dreaming is very difficult to achieve when you're actively trying to do it.

it's normally something that just happens.

but to answer your question, i'd agree with roughly a week of no drugs and decent sleep at night before your sleep/dream patterns are back on track.

I think it's fairly common for people to have vivid and maybe chaotic dreams when they stop smoking weed initially. To have a lucid dream during that time would probably be pretty awesome it could even be easier to achieve, although it could be harder at the same time lol. You should definitely try this though and share if you have any luck that'd be interesting.

I concur with the above posters, about a week and you should start to have some very vivid dreams. If you go for a longer time they should continue to get more intense

I've had success with melatonin and vitamin B6 to increase lucid dreams

i too have experienced either not dreaming as much or not remembering dreams from cannabis use. Like stated earlier, only a couple days without pot causes me to remember my dreams much better. I've also read that sleep deprivation can help with lucid dreaming, since you go into REM sleep much more quickly if you're sleep deprived. Thus not having time to drift down through the 4 other stages of sleep and being closer to consciousness when you start to dream. All this being said, i don't know how pleasant the dreams a sleep deprived mind will be...

when i'm sleep-deprived, i tend to either not dream at all or not remember a single thing i dream. one of the two, i'm not sure which. and that's odd for me, because i always remember at least a thing or two about my my dreams. i actually make it a point to remember what's happened in my dreams... it helps me deal with any stress that i may be experiencing much more effectively.

but when i haven't slept for 24+ hours, i don't ever remember having any kinds of dreams. it's weird and sucks.

Benadryl, same reason why some people take a light dose of datura seeds to potentiate there dreams. Seriously though benadryl will make you have some fucked up crazy dreams.

I dont know if thats true or not because I dont remember my dreams anyway but I dont smoke often...

being a daily smoker... i rarely dream

i find intense lucid dreams only occur if i wake up middle of the night (for a piss or drink) and go back to sleep

i love having control of lucid dreams but it takes time to master properly
the excitement can wake you up right away

yesterday i was dreaming about rolling this fat joint and passing it with two bisexual lesbians... lol but i woke up when i tried to undo my zippers :|

For real. The very last time I took benadryl (over two years) I became drowsy after about an hour and fell asleep. I proceeded to be stuck in this paralyzed state where I could not move and it felt like I could not breathe, although my eyes were open and I could see everything around me. My blankets/pillows/various things in my room all came alive, dancing around, holding me down, not letting me breathe and trying to suffocate me.

Seriously trippy shit. Never again.

this always happens! as soon as i realize I'm lucid dreaming I wake up because I'm too excited! Damn! :!=D

i no i dream because my gf says i talk in my sleep but i very rarlly remember them. but wen i drink ill dream more and remember more too.

Any time I try and stop smoking weed, it takes me hours to get to sleep but when I do I have such intense dreams that I wake up even if good things are happening.

So the answer for me would be don't smoke and try and sleep.
And you're there! Haha

How much diphenhydramine did you take? This sounds much more like sleep atonia and hypnogogic hallucinations than a drug-related experience, though certain drugs can predispose people to this phenomenon. I had an experience like this in high school that i misinterpreted as a religious experience until i took abnormal psychology my freshman year of college. Later in life when I had some drug problems i experienced this state frequently, usually after binging on coke & liquor, then taking xanax or another benzo to come down. It can be quite scary.

It was two pills, I don't remember the dosage but they were typical generic sleeping pills. Definitely does sound like those hallucinations, but it's never happened again so I do believe it was triggered by the benadryl ( I believe they have the same ingredient or at least very similar) it was scary dude!

I have noted this as well as many of my other buds... within 4 days or so my dreams return and seem very powerful and fresh in my mind. When i do smoke i can have lucid dreams when high on morphine but never regular dreams...kinda a shitty side effect but i will take the bad with the good.

It only takes a few days for your brain to bounce back and you start remembering your dreams more easily again. I've read that smoking weed causes the suppression of your REM sleep, which is the restorative sleep in which you have vivid and memorable dreams (you have dreams at other points in sleep, but generally don't remember them, and they usually aren't very clear). However, when you stop smoking weed, it causes something called a REM rebound, which essentially is the suppressed REM sleep coming back. You'll have extra REM sleep, and therefore have more vivid dreams that you're likely to remember.

I've been a lucid dreamer for maybe four years now as well, but I'm not very good at it when I'm in school, I just don't seem to have the time or energy to put effort into it. One more month and I'm out, and then I can get back into lucid dreaming.... By the way, you don't necessarily have to stop smoking weed to remember your dreams, you just have to work harder to remember them, and you might not have as many. I know of one guy who smokes weed every day, and he was still a fairly successful lucid dreamer, more so than myself, simply because he put the time and effort into it. I find the most useful dream recall device is to lay in your bed before you go to sleep, and recount your day from the moment you woke up that morning. Recall every useless and trivial moment that you can in chronological order throughout the day. I did this one summer, and it worked amazingly, I was remembering 4-5 extremely vivid dreams every night.

Good luck, and pleasant dreams. :)

haha, oh yeah. I remember not long ago I had a cold and was taking benadryl, and I started having really odd and vivid dreams. Stuff didn't make any sence

That's just sleep paralyzation, once you get used to it you can WILD and go right into a lucid dream easily.
