Don't you hate when you can't correct drug myths?

The country with the world's most prisoners.
I can't fucking stand hearing somebody say anything that is incorrect about drugs. But I can't correct them because I will look like a junkie. I just want people to know for their safety. You know they need to know the truth, but society can't handle the truth. About drugs anyway.:(

FUCK tell me about that.
I think most, if not all bluelighters can relate to this.

We all have stories of close-minded friends who know it all and when you try to present your arguments you're either considered a junkie who just defends his drug OR you're listening to dozens of anti drug myths.

Whether you can correct people about drug facts depends heavily on their open mindness and intelligence. I have several friends who never touched anything "harder" than booze and weed, yet they listen and believe when I tell them facts about meth or heroin and they can accept that my knowledge is more accurate. Those are exceptions though, with most people who are anti-illegaldrugs I wouldn't ever draw attention on myself because it's a waste of time at the best

That has to be one of my biggest pet peeves, can't tell you how many times I've heard "oh shrooms make your brain bleed thats why u trip" or "all molly has meth and coke in it blah blah blah". I've even shown people facts on erowid about drugs to prove my point and they still don't get it :\.

I hate when I tell someone something I learned from careful study and research and they just look at me with that blank stare of "oh k kool". At least if they disagree they have some interest in the truth, if they just don't give a shit nothing you can do to help them :\

just the thought of trying to convince someone that irregular use of hard drugs is not wholly unhealthy is ridiculous. aside from vouching for pot and psychedelic use*, which is easier to do and tends not to get stares, i dont attempt to talk to anybody about the hard facts of using other drugs. i can count on one hand the friends i would be comfortable talking about that with.

* vouching for use = correcting myths in this instance

I totally understand you, feel the same way. So tired of ''ecstasy gets you high because it makes your brain bleed'', ''Yo i took some blabla E pills that had H,Coke and Meth in them'', ''Try H once and youre hooked'' , ''PCP will make you rip out your nutsack and eat it'', ''Shrooms get you high by giving you food poisoning'', ''Weed kills brain cells and makes you retarded'', '' Codeine and Xanax are antidepressants'',etc, etc, etc. THen when you correct them '' Oh that guy is drug fiend blablabla''. Its so frustrating...

U can correct your friends, family, and even ur co-workers drug myths when they repeat them, u just can't be a dick about it.

And it doesn't help when cliche looking stoners use the same pro-pot propaganda from the 90s... update ur vocab

Through careful, steady and sensitive leakage of information about my own drug use, I can now correct my parents if they come out with any bullshit drug myths, without fear of retribution or disgust.

Mind you, I'm 25, everyone's parents should respect their children's choices by that age!

Being a Biochemist helps too. Explaining it scientifically rather than, as NerdOnDrugs so eloquently put it, like a cliche 90s stoner

This bothers people?
Honestly, I don't give a shit. "Weed kills brain cells" Oh, cool, don't smoke. "One time using H and you're hooked" Good, stay away from it.
More for me...

O/t: No, I don't care. I put in my opinion of why its not correct, but if they choose not to believe me then who gives a flying fuck. Most the myths are silly and will cause no harm, and most the people who help spread these myths have generally not done said drug (with the exception of mdma, ive seen a lot of people who frequently use it believe all the heroin myths and color coding nonsense like green is mellow and pink is love-y {duh, thats why its pink} ;) )

But if the misinformation theyre spreading is harmless, I dont really care. Hopefully they will realize the truth eventually.

Why don't you share some actual examples of terms from the '90s that you find to be outdated and examples of what you'd like them to be replaced with.....The argument over the legalization of marijuana has always been the same as far I'm concerned. Do you somehow think that you have something to add in the legalization argument that someone from 20 years ago missed? Please elaborate at exactly what you're talking about...

Well I just do it anyway. I'm pretty open about my use except around the workplace, so almost all of my friends know about my use, so when they talk about drugs and they say anything incorrect, i dont hesitate to correct them. its prolly annoying, but i just cant stand it when people spread false information, i simply cant stand idly by and not say something.

haha, I'm a bit older/cooler than you. I watched All That and Snick, and then was too old for the spin off shows.

But although kids shows didn't show explicit pot heads, I felt like Shawn from Boy Meets World, Kel, the band Polaris from Pete & Pete, and Harvey from a show i'm embarrassed to mention fit the book...

The argument over the legalization of marijuana has always been the same as far I'm concerned. Do you somehow think that you have something to add in the legalization argument that someone from 20 years ago missed? Please elaborate at exactly what you're talking about...

Studies come out every few months or so on the benefits of marijuana as medicine or as a therapeutic value, or it's a study debunking a study from the Just Say No years. Either something new or something peer-reviewed validating a previous work. And that's even with the US blocking as much research as possible, and the media not covering them much nationally.

But that doesn't even matter really, the people who are the most against weed are rapidly dying off as we speak, and if you're 35 or younger you're most likely cool with it.
