Don't Set Up a Growhouse Next Door to a School Like These Three Kendall Men

If you're going to take the risk of setting up an illegal marijuana growhouse, it's best to take just the littlest bit of caution and make sure that growhouse isn't directly next door to a school where kids as young as kindergarteners study.

Three Miami men weren't so smart and set up shop right across the street from Winston Park K-8 Center in Kendall. They now face more serious charges for operating so close to a school.

Miami-Dade Police located the growhouse at Southwest 79th Street and 132nd Avenue. It's located literally across the street from the school.

Winston Park K-8 Center was placed on a temporary lockdown when police raided the growhouse.

Miguel Baquero, 43, Hector Lleo, 43, and Dagoberto Fernandez, 41, all now face charges according to CBS Miami. But because they were operating within 1,000 feet of a school they now could face more serious consequences.

...the kids walking by will smell the weed and get high? Or the experience of smelling it will eventually corrupt their very spirits?

...the growers will give weed to the birds outside to eat, and the bad birds will then sell it to the kids?

I keep my drugs away from kids, but it seems that the flowers ("drugs") were safely locked in a house that the kids had no access to.
The whole situation is ridiculous to me.

And it is just as easy to sell imported drugs to kids as it is local drugs.
If selling drugs to kids were punished more strictly than selling drugs to adults (as I think it is), I could understand it.
But growing weed nearby kids, when the weed is locked up, and nobody is selling it to the kids?
Why would that result in a longer jail sentence?

Ive always wondered why they had this wierd law in america, I thought of the meth labs maybe because of noxious fumes or whatever, but a fucking growhouse, who cares if its directly opposite a school? How does that warrant extra charges probally the most retarded law ive ever heard of.

There could possibly be a robbery, and a shoot out type situation.

Well that's the age old question isn't it, why can't we all grow a few of those kind of plants ANYWHERE, near a school or not, i don't mean 50, but 5 or so would be great. They smell so nice, look so nice and you can use them to smoke, eat and be merry. I wish I knew why. The governments are all old pricks who prefer to drink than relax on pot? Who knows, its weird.

Here in Aus you used to be able to grow a few in most states and territories but that all got change and not you can't grow any at all in any state or territory. Maybe thanks to Howard and Bush, i'm not too sure.

But the only reason that robberies are conceivable is due to the illegality of drugs.
If the law were changed, that danger would disappear.

And, is it illegal to have $3 million in jewels or cash in a house near a school?
How about very nice cars with expensive stereo systems?
They get stolen or carjacked all the time.

Brothel 'can stay near school'

The operation of an unlicensed brothel next to a primary school in Ponsonby has been put forward as evidence that prostitution laws are flawed - but the Auckland Council says to shut it would be unfair.
