hi there im taking zyprexa 5 mg daily.smoked weed a year ago and i liked it my psycatrist told me that LSD is very dangerous for me mentally can i smoke weed sometimes and does it cause depression tnx.

YMMV. It helps some people and makes it worse for others. if your psych said you shouldn't take psychedelics because of depression or mental health issues, i would avoid cannabis. Your previous experience should help you decide.

Bottom line is it won't cause depression but it could promote underlying depression while you are coming down or if you have problems with psychedelics you might over analyse shit and get depressed.

If you are taking zyprexa, what mental condition are you using it for? Weed can cause depression as chainer3k said, but it can get you stuck in a negative thought loop which can help the depression along. If you have a disorder that is exacerbated by psychedelics, I would also be careful with cannabis.

If you are curious, you can try smoking a very tiny amount and see how you feel afterwards. Very small though, just a couple of hits...if you overdo it and get too high, you might feel uncomfortable.

i think heavy smoking causes depression. you will likely have a low mood whenever your buzz wears off. however i think smoking occasionally could help depression.

I'm also taking olanzapine (Zyprexa) and I smoke daily.

I used to automedicate using only cannabis to control my bipolar disorder before being put onto the antipsychotic and now I smoke less, as a supplement to my medication.

As stated, YMMV. I know people who can't touch psychedelics at all anymore, including cannabis.

weed doesn't directly chemically cause depression, but if you are prone to anxiety while high, then this anxiety could lead you to become depressed,
although the antipsychotic might be able to block out some of that anxiety/psychotic thinking,
edit: from personal experience with cannabis anxiety, and with limited personal experience with an antipsychotic (risperidone)

You might want to give the Mega Anxiety thread a look. There is tons of helpful people and tips with dealing with depression and anxiety as the two often go hand-in-hand, unfortuntatly.

And well.... this thread has been done before, just not for a specific person, more in general.

I believe you've got your answer and any additional posts are just going to be rephrasing of what has already been said. If you don't do well with psychedelics, stay away. Like I said, try the anxiety thread if you have additional questions, we will be happy to help you out there!
