Anyone who's done opiates is familiar with the dreaded itch that leaves some people scratching until they bleed.

I've searched the forums but not found an answer to my question: does the itch decrease with tolerance?

I was initially taking MSContinus and oramorph (both morphine sulphate) and what started off as a minor-itch eventually disappeared.
Four or five weeks ago, my medication was changed to OxyContin and oxycodone. They made me quite itchy but again that has subsided quite a bit.

I've now managed to get my hands on a fentanyl nasal spray (0.05mg fentanyl per pray) and just one spray has made me itchy and sweaty.

Will the side-effects from the fentanyl lessen like they did with morphine and oxy?
Anybody else find the itch becomes less and less noticeable as your body adjusts to the drug?

Yes. With any opiate my body adjusts to it an I get less itchy an tolernace rises.

Good. I'm on around 200mg oxy a day (sometimes up to 250mg) so I have quite a high tolerance. Fentanyl gave me that lovely warm euphoric feeling for the first time in ages. Glad the itch is gonna go lol.

Yeah, many of the side effects from opiates go away after you use long enough for your body to get used to it. Of course, by then you're most likely strung out soo... kind of a double edged sword.

I have severe chronic pain so I'm most likely going to be on a high dose of opiates for the rest of my life anyway so that isn't really an issue.
