I am physically dependent on ativan, so I have to take it so i don't withdrawal. I have some 10/325 Norcos and I want to get high on them, I had a 3 week opiate tolerance break so I was excited to get some euphoria.

Today I took my usual morning dose of 4mg ativan, then about 5 hours and 30 minutes later I took 10mg of the norco. I feel like the ativan is dulling the euphoria from the opiates? Because with low tolerance 10mg usually gets me feeling pretty euphoric. Does this happen to anyone else?

Like I feel the analgesic effects and pupils constrict, but the euphoria is short lasting, I think the ativan is doing something to dull it.

bigger doses of benzos like you are taking dull out opiate effects for me too... especially the 'speedy' typa high hydros or oxys can give you. with the 'heavier' opiates like morphine its a bit different for me

yea benzos kill the euphoria of the opiates. I had one friend who would always take both and it made no sense to me. He would always just pass out and crash his car and shit I don't know how it would be enjoyable. Not to mention how dangerous it is I am pretty surprised he is still alive.

Yes.

You should take Hydros when on a clear head if you're looking for the lovely rushy euphoria :).

Sorry to hear that you are dependent on Ativan. It must suck to live on a pill esp Benzos cuz it's gonna be hell to come off unless you take it for the rest of your life. /:

I couldn't feel a twinge of euphoria from opiates (or anything else) for months after quitting benzos. Your brain needs time to re-configure itself after long-term benzo use. It can take months. I know you're still taking Ativan, but the mechanism could be the same. You're probably experiencing inter-dose withdrawal with the benzos, which makes everything--including other drugs--less enjoyable.

Been off etizolam for 17 months now and still can't enjoy codeine, which used to be just as euphoric as hydrocodone for me. Lortabs are fully euphoric again though.

^ Strange, I was able to get high just fine after quitting etizolam. Maybe not during the first few weeks of withdrawal however, as opiates had a tendency to increase anxiety thus preventing me from enjoying the high. It's worth mentioning that my habit wasn't the hugest, though you wouldn't expect that from the three months of sheer hell that followed. I still can't even have a single beer or a mg of xanax without going into withdrawal and it's been over a year :\

In response to the OP, benzos absolutely ruin all opiate euphoria IME. This comes up regularly, there seems to be two polar opposite reactions from the combo, those who find each other counterproductive and dulling and those who find them to potentiate each other... sounds like your one of those people who find the combo less than ideal.
