She scoffed at the idea of a rock being beautiful.
She scoffed...
I wonder how many times she's walked by a rock and scoffed at its beauty.
How many times has she taken for granted the tree outside her dorm building? The grass she walks on? The air she breathes? The sunshine that rains on her face every day?
I wonder how many times she's driven by a tree-covered mountain and only seen it as an obstacle in her path...
I wonder how many times she's looked at a tree and stood there, marveling at its separate ecosystem...
I wonder how many times she's noticed the hundreds of different shades of green, blue, and brown in nature...
I wonder how many times she's sat by a stream and thought about where it was going, or where it had been...
I wish I could show her just how beautiful that rock is...

It's amazing how many people can go through life without seeing things as beautiful simply because they ARE beautiful in their own silent, yet vivid, way.
Thankfully, you are not one of those people, Squirt. Keep on lookin' and livin' and by all means write about it along the way

on a humorous note, if you hit her upside the head with the rock, then she'd notice it :P

Beautiful.

And at least there ARE people in the world who will take the time to stop and notice the little colored flecks of our kaleidoscope world. Thanks for reminding me today Squirt. I needed it.

Squirt... I've got a few friends like the one you're writing about.
It's sad when they can't see beauty in things, especially when the things they can't see beauty in are themselves.
It makes me truly sad to speak to someone who is a beautiful, wonderful person, but has been hurt, or rejected, therefore, feels that they've become a rock... something to overlook, or kick out of the way...
er... anyway... maybe I'm reading to deeply into it... :\

It is frustrating when others can't see the beauty in common, everyday things. The fact that you can and that you want to share this with others says so much about you.
