This is the third naltrexone implant i've gotten but i have two fentanyl patches the kind with the gel - i think they are sandoz? cant remember they are not beside me right this second. but to get to the point naltrexone blocks ALL opiates? or can you still feel the fentanyl? any answers would be appreciated ASAP! thanks

What reasons would you get a naltrexone implant for? and what if you have an accident and are in a lot of pain and need opiates??

Well, assuming the drug has high enough affinity or the concentration is high enough, the agonist will win out, eventually.

It's not usually economical, though.

Don't worry: if you're injured and need analgesia, opiates are still an option, but there are other options that work just as well (amphetamine, for example, though I suspect it's rarely used).

It would take a pretty wild (naive) doctor to write an amp script for pain when someone is on a naltrexone implant. I called the vivitrol people a few days ago and asked about pain relief options while on vivitrol. They pretty much told me regional anesthesia is your best bet. I asked about opioids with a higher affinity, and they said their position on it is 'Short acting opioids only'. You would prob be hard pressed to find a doctor who will sit there and watch you as he administers 5mg on fent. and watches your breathing. He would sooner write you a script for 800mg ibuprofin, mumble junkie under his breath, and go to lunch.
