does ice in bongs break the bong?

my friend has a bong and doesnt put ice in it because he has no ice catcher and he said that the ice will break it if u dont have one is this true?
 
its not as black and white as you seemingly want your answer to be. every bong is different strength glass. chances are if you just drop staight in it might break the slide. just tilt the bong as much as you think so that the ice will slowly slide down the glass into the water as opposed to just dropping it straight in.
 
well no he said the bubbles like push the ice or make pressure or something and crack it
 
And acid stays in your body for 7 years.

All you really need to worry about is going from super cold to super hot. Thats not gonna happen is it? You good to go with the ice. I also wanna 2nd what snowboarder88 said.
 
if there are no ice pinches/notches then most likely the ice wont stay logged in the shaft/tube part of the bong n will just sit in the water n make the water cold instead of makin your rip could but thats just my 2 cents. depending on your bong though you might be able to fit rnough ice in it that some will stay on top of the downtube n thus work as n ice pinches or notches would


far as i know, none of this should effect your bong as far as durability is concerned
 
Just slide the ice in so that it doesnt slam into the downstem... thats the only real worry....

Or you could just use crushed ice.... Smoke would probably get colder...
 
two things ice could do . .

1: hit the down-tube. that's the main concern.

2: cause such a drastic temperature change that the glass cracks. this is very unlikely (i.e. - if you had your bong full of near-boiling water, dumped it out, then filled it with ice and cold water).

pressure and bubbles aren't really an issue.
 
this is a simple question that has an advanced answer, its like this;
If your bong is hot from applying heat then ice can cause breakage especially in a glass bong.

if you have ice in you bong when applying a large amount of heat you can cause breakage also even in plastics, be careful and moderate in your application of heat and you should be okay
