I take fish oil for bipolar\anxiety. It helps and I strongly recommend it. I take 3 capsules in the morning and at night. My nightly dose is often after 4 or 5 drinks. I take it then to coat my stomach a bit. But I just wonder if I'm absorbing any of it or just pissing all the Omega 3's out or something.

-Generally up to 3 grams (3000 milligrams) of omega-3 fatty acids are considered safe.

As I understand from your post OP, you are taking 3 capsules a day and at night which is way too much. Consumption of too much Omega may cause gastrointestinal problems and might keep blood from clotting and can increase the chance of bleeding.

Yes you are absorbing them but since you are drinking max 5 drinks a day plus too much omega, your liver is taking a load on this combo, which and might cause liver complications. I would suggest for you to cut back on alcohol consumption.

If you're not taking your omegas with food, then chances are you're not absorbing them completely anyway. Straight fat will go right through the GI of most healthy people.

Alcohol washes away the lining of the stomach and small intestine, which means if you take supplements after an evening of drinking you're likely not absorbing them. The quality of you stool will indicate this. If it's loose, diarrheic, or there is a film on the surface of the water, then chances are that's fat which has passed right through you. If you drink like that regularly then chances are your absorption is low.

I also agree with what Maya said, that if you're a regular, heavy drinker then your liver will not metabolize fat as well. But your mileage will vary.
