Does depression ever make you feel like as if you have to start from scratch again?

Hi guys,

I have had a long term problem with depression but have now seen some of the evil things it does to me. One of those things is that it always gets to me think that I need to restart, for e.g. I am competent in doing assignments / essays but something in my head tells me to play dumb on it etc. This applies for other things as well, whereby my knowledge for it is there and I know how to go about doing it yet something in my head goes don't do it but start from scratch again and pretend like as if you know nothing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Everything you do is started from scratch. Everything I do is started from scratch... the same goes for everybody else.

Ultimately very little that we've done or haven't done in our past affects us in the here and now. You think people on the street look at you and know what you've done? That they can somehow see it in you?

If you go out to a bar and talk confidently with somone you've never met then you're not faking it. In that moment, you are confident. The person talking to you will never know any different. And it's not important if you think you're confident or not, ultimately the only objective truth about your personality exists in the minds of others, not your own.

So yes, depression makes people want to start over, to have another shot. The real beauty of life is that you can. Just go to a bar somewhere and try it. If it works, great. If not then go to bed, wake up and you have that other shot. You have it every single day, that's the beauty of being alive.

Life is waiting for you man, go and try it out (but leave behind the bottle).
