Does smoking marijuana cause depression, or not? Some studies have shown that it's used to treat depression, while some other studies have shown otherwise.

i used to be really badly depressed and i used weed never helped me tbh though doubt it made it worse just makes u forget for while not really a cure

I think it masks depression. I wouldn't use it to treat depression but some persons do and it does fine for them.

I'm trying not to smoke for a while. I'm on day 2. I'm not really depressed from not smoking. More looking for something else to keep my mind occupied.

Pfffft no. Not in me anyway. I get euphoric, for the most part. If not, everything is funny. Actually I find everything funny normally, maybe my brain is damaged 8(

@^ i love that avatar and the movie!

for me i can be depressed and smoke weed and then it creates a fog so i dont have to think about it, so if i stay high i can hide from my own anxiety/depression pretty easy

people stop smoking for a t-break, and after 5 days start getting depressed and think weed gave them depression, but thats BS, its just underlying problems coming back to surface after being under the influence of something for a while.

overall though i notice that smoking weed with regularity does cause me more issues, and dull my coping skills which leads to greater anxiety in general, which leads to depression but the blame lies with me not weed, because that stuff happens because of my self-control problems.

Well said.

you're going about your question in the wrong way IMO. Smoking weed doesnt cause, or not cause, depression. It MAY cause depression in some people but you have to consider other factors like everyone's unique brain chemistry, personal use, external factors, etc. You have to take into account the subjectivity of drug experiences. Drugs affect everyone differently, period. Don't think in such black and white terms (marijuana either causing depression or not causing depression)

For me personally, weed has definitely exacerbated my depression/anxiety. In my experience, marijuana has acted as a 'quick fix' for depression but not as a cure and in the long run it def made things worse.

If you use it then quit u will probly get depressed, but if u smoke atleast twice a week it can be used for depression, but in the long run you will be more depressed if your not high

I would say it is more likely to cause depression because of its impact on your personality. It can cause you to be more introverted and apathetic. Therefore it is holding you back form achieving what you want in life and that can be depressing. It also may limit your social life, which can be depressing.

It can definitely help a person alleviate some symptoms of depression for the short-term period while the drug is taking effect. However it is not understood if and how cannabis can affect depression over the long-term, as well as the amounts required of its cannabinoids to have such impact.

It probably depends on the person. Different people's body chemistry reacts differently to it.

Daily heavy cannabis smoking made me more depressed. It may have just been where I was in my life then. But I haven't used cannabis is 6 months and I have to say I'm not as depressed as I used t be.

Then again my use might have bordered on abuse.

It depends on the person, the state of their mental health, their metabolism and clearance rate, and how often they smoke.

Like with any medicinal drug, negative impacts will offset positive ones as abuse increases.

It may or may not make somebody who is depressed temporarily better, or even worse with depression, and getting stoned may make some people more aware of things in their life that could make them depressed or why they are sad/depressed. Or if they have issues with anxiety or panic sometimes certain strains or types can make panic or anxiety happen to people while they are high.

It can work either way. There are a few important factors. One factor other than the person is the strain of cannabis. If the person does not live somewhere with medical marijuana and collectives, or the netherlands it may be a challenge to have a reliable source of the meds you need. You can't just go smoking any strain and assume it will help. Certain THC/CBD ratios are in favor. Of course, you can always grow your own.

if you're already depressed, and you use it to avoid your depression without fixing the root cause (e.g. wake and baking everday and getting high 24/7 to keep your mind off your depression), it will worsen it.

At the same time, if you're responsible with your smoking, it can definitely help alleviate depression (as long as you combine it with working towards long-term goals...and use it more as a "reward" for completing tasks than as an all day everyday thing).

^ agreed if you are using it to "shield" your depression that generally ends bad. But, sometimes a nice cannabis buzz can give you a different outlook on your life/your daily activities. But like I mentioned before the key to cannabis helping your depression, anxiety or other ailments will be strain decisions. If you just go out, hit the streets and get what you can chances are it will never work. There are particular strains when grown well will put a smile on anyone's face.
