Does cannabis make a difference to your reaction time?

...I still drive fine, and that makes it so that other people on the road are safer. But whatever. Look at the links i put up.

Why question what other people's lifestyles might be? Me personally - Yes, I am stoned all day. I maintain a normal and positive life, but Yes, I AM stoned all day. And I have places to be at times... no way around it. I drive just as fine when high than when sober. And I dont make some dumbass moves like I do when im sober (i fully agree to being an idiot). Im not as dangerous.

just because you feel ok to drive, doesn't mean you are. you would surely laugh in the face of a drinker who declared themselves ok to drive because they "feel fine"?

there's a world of difference between thinking you can drive well and actually driving well.

^^^Do you mean they are all about both?

whenever my parents wanted to pose an argument against pot they would relate it to alcohol. I don't drive drunk because I know my limitations and those entailed with drinking. Everyone else's limitations are different so they should know and respect them. Bottom line i I know I drive normal/ sometimes better when I'm stoned. If you can't feel the zone then don't drive under the influence.
 
But isn't the bottom line that no one can accurately judge for themselves if they are impaired or not? So far this is an argument between subjective personal assesment such as "I think I drive better stoned" versus all scientific data pointing the other direction.

Why did everyone tested show impairment yet you believe that if you were tested there would be no perceptable impairment? I think this is a question of not being able to accurately asess these things without actually being tested - one just doesn't know this kind of thing for sure by thinking about it.

I am tested everyday when I get behind the wheel stoned. When I'm high I'm have the ability to focus on individual tasks very easily. Drive a straight line, check blind spot, use signals, don't ride someones ass and give plenty of time for a stop. If I have missed one please fill it in. These are my 5 things I do when I drive. I find these tasks more natural when I'm high. Not to change up the subject or anything but I find myself more unaware of my surroundings while I'm on the phone. The only way I see myself as posing a danger is if someone else fucks up and I'm caught off guard, which can happen while I'm sober as well.

I trust my own personal experiences more than those of others/statistics.

Also I'm not trying to argue either way here because I am only one person. Everyone's brain is different and reacts in their own way to weed. All I'm saying is that I have been driving 4 years and stoned all of those years. Since I have been "learning" to drive all this time and being stoned while doing so, I have learned to drive high.
 
I have a mate that i prefer him to smoke weed before hoping in the car with him.... when he's stoned, he drives more mellower, without cannabis, he drives like a hardcore manic that scares the lights out of me, I am not kidding.

But even I said this, driving and drugs of any sort really dont mix........ ;)

What? I'm not questioning your lifestyle.
I've smoked hash everyday for the past 4 months, and yes, quite a few of the days were all-dayers ... and so?
I still wouldn't dream of driving a car stoned.

You may not believe it, but there's some other people on the road. And yes, it is a very big change in someone's lifestyle when one day they wake up in a hospital and have a nurse quietly point at a wheelchair in the corner.

Just like alasdairm said, "just because you feel ok to drive, doesn't mean you are."

And I certainly wouldn't want my son to find out "hey, that stoner guy was NOT ok to drive"

This annoys me to a point where I think I'm going to have to listen to some Crimpshrine to cool down.
 
I know for one, weed + motor vehicles = fuck.

my brain is surely vulnerable to marijuana.
last year i jumped on my motorcycle after toking a joint.
10 minutes later i wake up in the hospital.
can't remember shit.
apparently, I ignored the stop sign and didn't look, and got hit by another oncoming motorcycle that was speeding. I'm fine now but didn't have a helmet on at the time. I learned my lesson. I got a 2-for-1 deal. Pay the price for 2 crimes, drugs and no helmet.
'course the people I were with could be lying about what happened.
anyway, it definitely makes my reaction bad, and I'm sure it could do the same to alot of other people. I suggest don't do it. But if you do, you may just learn your lesson like I did. ^^

The fact that you used the word "whatever" in your response as to how you explain why driving under the influence of marijuana makes me think this response wasn't even worth reading, and you're not quite aware of the responsibility you have when you take a car, which can quite easily turn into a killing machine.

And I'm not going to look those links up. It's common sense people.
If it was just a matter of "driving stoned slightly increases your chances of dying in a car-wreck" I honestly wouldn't give a flying fuck, but it turns out (I think it's the third time I repeat this yet some people still find a way around this) it's a matter of "driving stoned slightly increases your chances of that woman never seeing her daughter again" and that's when I start to care.

I once hit a guy (my first and only uppercut ever) because I heard about him smoking up while driving (he wasn't only stoned, no, he had a joint in his hand + smoke in his face, which I'm sorry to tell you is not the greatest driving aid) so please just stop posting here, it's pissing me off.
 
Imagine driving after smoking your first cigarette ever. You'd probably be pretty buzzed, maybe even dizzy, etc. Yet we never tell people not to smoke cigarettes and drive, because most people that do are used to nicotine and it has no affect on their driving.

Likewise I know people who are stoned almost all the time and I really do believe it would make no difference if they sparked a blunt before taking a ride to Domino's. Obviously THC has more effects than nicotine in terms of concentration, reaction time, etc... but I believe many people are perfectly able to adjust to this and drive quite naturally. Of course there are many people also who should never get behind a wheel stoned.

Either way I don't believe pot is as cut and dry as alcohol by any means. There's just as much evidence to support the idea that stoned drivers are safe drivers as there is to support the contrary.

I avoid driving stoned primary because I don't want to go to jail, but when I have my driving is almost the same as when I am sober. Actually I pay a lot more attention to the road and my surroundings and drive less recklessly to compensate, making sure to make complete stops at every stop sign and to signal at every turn, etc. Even if my reaction time is slightly slowed, I believe it is compensated for by my increased alertness and ability to preempt sudden braking, etc.

I'm certainly not pro-driving-on-pot but there are some good counter points to be made.
 
What I have been saying all along. KNOW YOU FUCKING LIMITATIONS. If you can't drive fucked up then don't. You can be too stoned to drive. If you can't tell how fucked up your brain is then don't drive. 99.9% of the time I "feel fine" on drugs, like I could do what ever I wanted (talk to a cop, drive a car, go to work). But I know my limitations and don't place myself in these situations if I know I'm too fucked up, even though I "feel fine."

So weed makes you forget about stop signs, eh? this is an example of someone who should not drive under the influence. sorry you got in a wreck man but you should have know your limitations.

i don't think weed makes people smarter or able to concentrate better

but being stoned and driving really isn't that hard
and the paranoia from weed causes them to focus that much more when driving

so driving high is fine, as long as you work your way up slowly
you can't compare it to driving drunk, don't even try

Of course, everyone should know the limit.
At the time I didn't, and didn't know my limitations. I wouldn't have gotten myself a 225cc motorcycle exhaust up my ass at 95mph if I knew what I was doing.
First of all after I took the shot I felt nothing, so apparently it got to my head seconds after I hopped on my bike, and after that its blanked out.
I'm sure I had my reasons, I always do, it's human nature.
ANyway, I didn't know my limitations, and now I do. I learn the hard way.

All scientific data? Did you even look at any studies? They are split, at worst, on stoned driving.

it normally isn't bad, but last thursday I smoked for the first time in..........:o :o 4 days!:X . (It was my first real break in 6 months) I ended up having the hardest time getting my car in the garage (I have to go at a wierd angle between three walls and a garage.) It was very hard to tell what was going on as both my depth perception and reaction time were nonexistant....
