Does anyone have any money saving tips for the recession?

I had to bump this thread because I was browsing my favorite photo site and came across this:

How to Afford Anything

I may not agree with all of his advice but it's a good read if you're trying to save cash. Here's a sample:

Thrift

"A luxury, once sampled, becomes a necessity."

Don't try or borrow fancy stuff. The first time you touch that new camera, you're going to think you need and deserve it.

Rent or test drive a nice new car, and suddenly your perfectly good one seems crappy.

Stay in a really nice hotel once, and suddenly you think you "need" to stay in better places.

Don't do it!

This part definitely made me LOL.

Marry Smart

This isn't about marrying someone rich–that's marrying well.

Marrying smart means to marry someone as cheap as you are.

Your woman is always in charge. If she's as silly with her money as most people, after you're married, you can forget about having any money ever again.

A woman's job is to spend your money. If she hasn't shown that she can spend her own money well, she certainly won't spend yours any better.

I got lucky with my wife. She's even cheaper than I am, but she's rare.

Want to know how cheap she is? She hates flowers because she can't bear knowing that they die in a week and then the money is gone. She'd rather just have the money. I sometimes leave a $20 on the counter. When she asks "what's this?" I respond "flowers." She then gets all smiley. Marriage is weird.

Maybe because I don't like getting flowers because they die so quickly. I guess that makes me cheap :D

Anyway, give it a read if you're trying to save some cash!

^^ Lol, good read! That guy makes some good points. He also sounds like the world's biggest nerd and possibly mildly autistic. If he held me up in the checkout line at a grocery store to re-check an item's price and possibly save $.30 I would not hesitate to throw a harpoon into his neck.

I also would hesitate to take dating advice from a guy who lived with his parents until he was 25.

A few tips of my own:

- Turn down the thermostat on your water heater, I almost halved my gas bill doing this!
- Only by used furniture/appliances etc
- Pack a lunch
- Always eat a meal at home before you go out, your less likely to splurge on overpriced cafe food if you've already eaten
- Don't get addicted to cocaine!

try to find a second source of income.. if you're single you can move back home for a short while..

For example where I live in rent is $1600 a month for one bedroom, not including utilities, cable, internet, etc.. thats another $200..
so in one year that's over $20,000 you can save..

cut down entertainment which includes bars, clubs.. or before you go to a club or bar get drunk before you go in, so you don't have to spend money on drinks inside. minimum drink is $10-15 plus tip u buy 3 drinks that $32-$50. so drink 4-5 shorts before you get in, and you just saved that much money..

since this is a drug website, I am sure a lot of people here spend a lot of money on drugs, at my most drug use, I was spending $800-$1000 a month. So I switched to sub, which is only $150 a month, including $175 every three months for a doctor visit. so I am saving around $650 a month.

so cut down drugs or stop doing them, or find a way to get it cheaper. for simple if you are spending $500 a month on weed, try to grow yourself.
or with other drugs buy in large quantities and split it with your friends for better price.
Or buy in large quantities and sell it to your friends at regular price.(only sell to your close friends, you don't want to get caught selling to strangers).

I think the biggest thing you can do to save money is a place to live, everything else is hard to cut down or if you cut down it brings down your quality of life..
