Does alcohol help you quit tobacco?

or should I quit trying to get wasted to deal with the pain of quitting tobacco?

I need some serious answers here. I am stuck between two lifestyles

I wouldn't try to give something up by switching to another drug.. well actually I did do that.. I quit weed, and switched to tobacco. But I regret it now.

Just go cold turkey. Or if you must, use patches.

Alcohol won't help. Quitting cigarettes take, apparently, only about a week for the physical withdrawals to go, then about a year to get rid of the habit. So quitting is mostly psychological.

Good luck. I'm still a smoker, so I know how hard it is.

I think that alcohol may make it harder to quit tobacco. A lot of people crave cigarettes a lot more when they are intoxicated. Also, alcohol lowers your inhibitions so may make you say "F it" and give in to smoking again.

The answer would be no mate. Try nicotine gums, or patches, or those artificial electronic cigarettes.

I could not think of a more enabling combo. Alcohol is far more likely to make you want to smoke if you are a smoker.

In my experience, the two go hand in hand. Try other alternatives besides alcohol. Wish you luck!

Definitely not. Get yourself on a proper quit program. Some patches, gum, etc. When I gave up I was on the patches and they helped immensely. I must say - my alcohol intake increased during the first couple of months, which helped, not in quitting itself, but just in dealing with some of the pains of giving up. :)

I agree with everyone, drinking more will just make your urge to smoke even stronger. Try to 'taper' off tobacco, ie maybe try to increase by I dunno, 2 cigarettes a day every week or something - better to take it slow if that means it'll be more effective in the long run :)
Oh and chew gum.

No. I don't smoke anymore but still occassionally feel the need when pissed. It definately won't help you stop.

I know people who only smoke when they drink so I feel that negates your idea. you'll crave a cig, then your lower inhibitions will tell you its okay to have just one. then your buddy will hate bumming you cigs and you'll buy a pack. game over.

i've heard of people quitting tobacco by smoking tons of joints, that's definitely a better idea than alcohol. Alcohol makes people fiend for all sorts of drugs, tobacco and cocaine especially. Not a great idea, but just getting really stoned for a week or so may make it easier. i'm a light smoker and it's near impossible to quit, i'm just thankful i don't smoke a lot.

yep, like everyone says, there's almost nothing worse you can to quit smoking than to drink, even people who've quit smoking for years and years say drinking can give them the craving again. Nicotine gum, lozenges and patches, e-cigs, medications like Champix, hypnosis, sucking on 20 lollipops a day-- pretty much anything is better for quitting smokes than hitting the boozer every night.

I still smoke but the times have tried to cut down have found e-cigs work best, get the nicotine and keeps hands busy, plus if you live in a region where smoking is banned in public places its fun to puff on a e-cig and see people get their knickers all in a twist cause they think you're lighting up:D

Wholeheartedly agree mate. I gave up for 18 months & then started having a few when binge drinking. Then I bought a packet & made sure to give them away before going home. That lasted about 6 months.

One day I woke up from where I collapsed the night before & had a packet in my pocket. Lit up without even thinking about it.Within a day I was back to 30 a day & it was like I never stopped.

Alcohol will make you crave what you desire like a fiend & once that idea is in your head it is game over. That applies to anything on booze. I told a senior executive we should cook up crack at the Christmas party & he thought I was joking. I certainly wasn't though.

lmfao. if it was good rocks you might get a promotion XD.
all jokes aside I tried to quit smoking when I was 18 (been smoking for a year at this point regularly) and soon as I got booze in me I drove (under the influence mind you) to go buy a pack of cigs. luckily all I got out of this was my smoking habit back.
