Doctors push for cocaine prescription

I believe Cocaine is one of the most misunderstood drugs in history. Cocaine prescriptions are likely to be very successful in my opinion. I personally don't believe that Cocaine is inherently a dangerous drug.

What is not commonly recognized by its typical abusers is that it is a highly potent chemical. My own experiments have suggested that Cocaine (in the form of Coca Tea as was suggested above) is active orally as a mild-stimulant and anti-depressant at around 5mg (!) with a rather long duration of action. I still feel "good" (albeit subtly) 24 hours later off of such a small dosage. It's no wonder that cramming hundreds of milligrams of this stuff up one's nose is unhealthy and addictive.

Now realistically, a Cocaine maintainance center can not afford to give out multiple grams of Coke to patients on a weekly basis, nor is it realistic for them to provide "maintainance" multiple times per day. I suspect that the doctors that are arguing for prescription Cocaine may also recognize its effects when used in more reasonable dosages and via the oral or sublingual administration routes.

I think there were studies (wish I could cite them) in South America that found that Coca Chewing alleviated Cocaine cravings in former-addicts of crystal Cocaine and Pasta. The well-known nutritional "integrative medicine" guru Dr. Andrew Weil M.D. reports that he never witnessed any negative health effects arising from Coca use (both oral and sublingual) in the South American populations that he studied. He suggested that ideally, Coca chewing gum could be made available to the American public.

Some day I will write all about my lengthy experimentations involving the Coca and my own observations concerning its effects. I'm not sure I completely agree with Weil, in that I think Coca could be mildly unhealthy when used in a different cultural context, however, I have little doubt that the negative effects would be negligible when compared with more the concentrated forms. I personally consumed Cocaine (in the form of Coca) on a daily basis for a few months, stopped my consumption abruptly, and experienced absolutely no withdraw symptoms and no cravings. In fact, I actually felt better than when I started because I was in better physical condition from being more active in general. I think Coca could be a very effective treatment for depression as well as ADD/ADHD related problems. I'm not sure that it would be very helpful for weight-loss as I found that on the whole, it increased my appetite.

Always, all things in moderation, of course. :)

I dissagree completely. Cocaine IS an inherently dangerous drug, that causes direct harm to the body and mind when you consume it (not like heroin/opiates). Cocaine prescriptions in the form of powder/freebase that can be snorted/smoked/injected would not help the problem but further increase it.

I think there should be an alternative product, that could be used to help cocaine addiction... whether or not coca tea is strong enough to stop cravings I don't know. What about oral cocaine? In the form of a tablet that you would have to swallow AT the clinic, so you couldn't sneak it home and smash it up then snort/inject it. What about sublingual tabs (does that work with cocaine?)... maybe that would be effect? Or cocaine suppositories?

Oral coke might be the way to go, although I'm not familiar with it... how long does it last? How much do you need to dose (damn it would be pricey)? Is it as damaging as snorted coke?

All I know is, giving cocaine to addicts to snort/smoke/inject will NEVER help the problem.

I have not experimented with oral and sublingual cocaine in larger doses. I suspect that as both the dosage and rapidity of absorption increase, the duration of action decreases considerably. As I mentioned, Cocaine appears to be much longer acting in much smaller amounts and when taken orally and sublingually.

For me, a few cups of Coca tea provides very mild stimulation and mood lift that gradually dissipates over about a 24 hour period. I usually still feel significant after-effects (increase in mental activity, etc.) for a day or two after. When leaf is chewed sublingually, there is a period of primary effects that lasts about 2.5-3.5 hours. This includes a considerable mood-lift, stimulation, clarity of thought, and appetite suppression. Afterwards, the appetite returns, but there is still a drive towards activity until about the 7 hour point. At the 7 hour point, it feels more like a cup of tea again and tends to taper off over a similar period as a cup of tea would. Read, no crash, no cravings, never a desire to take more instead of going to sleep if I'm tired, etc...

I have never abused Cocaine, so I can't speak for how an addict or a former-addict would necessarily feel about it. I've never actually tried "pure Cocaine", and I have little desire to. A few grams of chewed Coca is enough for me. It gets me pretty "high", though I'm a psychedelic/Cannabis guy over stimulants any day pretty much unless the context calls for it (e.g., hard physical activity, sleep deprivation, or studying).

No matter what form it is in, cocaine can always be freebased and made pure once seperated from any fillers. Unless it comes in the freebase form, which is what they'd have to do to prescribe it. Maybe in a tincture of some sorts?
