I am 8 days clean today and I had my monthly script follow up appt, except this time, I told my doctor I am done taking opiates. He looked at me bewildered and asked "what do you want for the pain?" I told him 800 ibuprofens. He got all strict on me and told me it could cause stomach bleeding (which I know). It is just funny how doctors in this town are so ready to hand out so many scripts. It makes it that much harder to quit.

Yeah, 800 ibuprofens would probably (surely) hurt you...have you considered switching doctors? If he might be encouraging triggering things for you he might not be a great idea.
Congrats on your 8 days clean btw :)

I am a cocktail waitress in las vegas, and my neck and shoulder on my tray arm gives me horrible pain. I had 4 different epidurals where they go in and numb the nerve. The problem is, that helped alot, the reason I think I have relied on the pain pills for a time after that is the misery I experienced in my personal life (bad relationship). I just recently kicked him out and I am now working on bringing myself back to normal. I just don't think my doctor sees many people in this town that don't want the pills. It is an epidemic here.

Mmh, are you sure something as srtong as opiates is necessary? Benzos might be able to help you with that, there are muscle relaxant ones that sound like they could be of use to you (such as tetrazepam). Of course you still have to be very careful with those too, you don't want to end up trading an addiction for another one, but it could help.

Otherwise things such as swimming and yoga can do wonders for that type of pain.

In my opinion, I think that you should try Valium. It's less addictive, and you would be taking a less mg dosage, which would be healthier, and if you take 20-25mg for your serious pain, you will feel beyond relaxed, but your tolerance will rise fast, so if you wanted to, try starting at 10-15mg.

Can you buy ibuprofen OTC where you live?

And are you referring to 800mg ibuprofens, or 800 pills of XXXmg ibuprofens?

Why run straight to pain killers ?, some massage and some deep heat orthopedic gel can work wonders.

I spent many years working as a flooring installer and used to get really sore knees from crawling around on cold concrete for 8 hours a day, getting some muscle relaxant heat gel rubbed in helped heaps more than pain killers, they only mask the problem, healing is much better imo.

800 mg ibuprofen is a prescriptions here. I have tried physical therapy, many different pain meds, muscle relaxers, alot over the last 3-4 years. What I was taking was helping and allowed me to work, but I am sick of feeling high all the time.

Thanks for the responses.

btw, last night first time picking my fantasy football team not high=not as much fun. oh well...

Good to hear you're feeling positive about things, I have just had 4 long years of out of control pain management that I am right at the end of, anything I can do to help or any advice I can give just ask, I'll do my best to share what I have found out.

I'll gladly trade you "pain" meds all I could get prescribed was ibuprofen and the 800mg ones ended up damaging my stomach. I knew it was only a matter of time with the amount of OTC shit that I take. I was just at the doctor a couple days ago to get something to help heal it and I got offered Mobic (another NSAID although supposedly better) and tramadol which I can't even take because I'm on an antidepressant.

i compleatly understand wanting to get of script pills. my doc got me addicted to sleeping pills but thats another story. now in my situation i would really like to quit everything thats addictive or chemical i want to go all natural that means only stuff that grows in the ground or vitimines and stuff. if your like me i wouldn't trade your pills for benzos as those can be quite addicting aswell. i would suggest going to a natural path, trying acupunture ... there are many ways to relieve pain search google for natural pain relief or something like that but it will take along time of trial and error to find something that works for you. but in the end its worth it
btw congradulations on taking first steps and having 8 days under your belt. i know how hard it is
