one of my family members recently got dropped from his pain management doctor 2 weeks ago b/c he didnt have the right ammount of oxy in his system. He was taking 240 roxi 30's, 90 80's, 120 k-8s, 120 valium 10's, on top of his prosom and antidepressants. he now has nothing. he has to see a family doctor to get a recommendation to see another pain doctor. hes going in today, what are his chances of getting atleast some of his meds (roxis and stuff) from the family doctor just to tide him over until he can see a pain doctor? What should he say to help get him something for pain?

chances are good that he'll get some oxycodone and maybe the valiums, but forget about the dilaudids, oc 80's and the prosom.

that is A LOT of pain meds man.
why so many pain meds? i can understand having 1 med for break through pain and one that is controlled release, but what is the purpose of the k-8's here?

I agree with kokaino, (cool username...lol). Obviously that is a ridiculous amount of pain meds. I dont know what doctor in their right mind is giving this out. So let me get this right, his monthly arsenal consists of

240 count 30 milligram Roxicodones
90 count 80 milligram Oxycontins
120 count 8 milligram hydromorphone's(Dilaudid's)
120 count 10 milligram Valiums

Im sorry to say this, but there is no way in hell that he is going to get this, especially right away. Pretty much any doctor will take pitty and give him enough narcotics to wean off withdrawals, but no way will he get this many.

I would say the valiums would be possible, and most likely SOME oxycodone. But might as well kiss the dilaudid good bye, and the most likely the Oxy contin. I can see him getting a reduction to the 15mg roxis as well, possibly even methadone instead.

I say this because chances are that his dosage was gradually increase over time after building trust with his doctor. No other doctor will have this kind of trust on a first visit. And he is really screwed if the doctor made note of this incident in his medical file. (Chances are he did). If its not recorded in the medical file, then it didnt happen, so I know for certain that he wrote something in it. IF another doctor looke at his file he would want to know why he was prescribed this amount of meds, then suddenly stopped.

To him, it will look like he is a drug dealer. Why didnt he have sufficiant meds in his system. Their standard drug test does not show levels of a substance, just wheather it is there or not, so obviously he wasn't taking his meds at all, therefore doesnt need them.

This sounds very fishy, and definitely would to any other physician....good luck to him, he will need it.
