Do you think it's possible to use opiates long-term without abusing them?

i feel your pain, luckily the withdrawal lasts 3 days including PAWS ha, so tough it out you bitch. Really, you should probably just go on methadone maintenance, there's not much hope of getting off kratom at this point.

yea, unfortunately kratom seems to recieve more n more attention everyday, i just saw some in DiTM about the new legal highs: kratom n mxe. well we all know kratom is hardly new, plants been around n in use in its native environment for centuries and apparently has even been used in the US for a few decades by the herbal supplement crowd as a natural pain reliever, similar to the way kava kava had been used in the US for 30 or maybe more years relatively under the radar but when head shops n gas stations start sellin the stuff it seems to lose its legitimacy n becomes seen as some new intoxicant marketed towards kids who cant get real drugs. unfortunately i doubt any law maker will be reading this little exerpt on BL and even if they did im not certain your story is what they would want to protect the plant for, politicians arent gonna say oh this plant helps out addicts maintain n control normal lives, if a politician was to support kratom legalities i would think they would do it under the guise of protecting the herbal community who has used the plant in the US successfully (w/o much incident is what i mean by that) for decades. but even then, call me a paranoid conspiracy theorists but if kratom becomes a bigger deal because of stories like yours and mine then pharmacuetical lobbyists would then do thier part in suading the government into believing its a legal high for kids n needs to be banned this way everyone has to resort to pharmacuetical opioid maintenance drugs. i mean im not gonna sit here n say kratom can hold its own with bupe n methadone but if there is enough people out there who use kratom the way you n myself do then the Rx companies just see us as a small piece of the pie that they can grab at by persuading legislation to schedule kratom. so while i see your point n think you're heart is in the right place im not convinced it would have any effect on policy makers even if they were to somehow see your story here

but changin public policy is really secondary to the real thing go on here, if you've been addicted to opioids in the past and kratom allows you to be w/o more destructive opioids and improve your quality of life then thats really all that matters, i myself dont wanna use kratom for long, i just saw it as a logical next step once i realised i was playin with fire again and could go either way with the opiates, n im fortunate enough that i didnt take my tolerance back to what it used to be or else im not certain kratom would of helped, n i think thats why there is gonna be some hate around the boards when comparing kratom and other opioid addictions cause there are seasoned junkies around here who unfortunately wont get the same benefits from kratom until they lower their tolerance, and thats easier said then done as we all know

anyways im ramblin now n lost my train of thought n where im goin with this but yea

*forrest gump voice*
guess that's all i have to say about that

I just don't know what I could possibly add to this. We see eye to eye on this issue lol! Thanks for saying differently what I could I've said myself!

Even a light to moderate heroin habit, (not even IV'ed, but snorted for example) is going to be lightyears harder a kick than even the worse Kratom habit.. and I really don't think anybody whose even semi-expierenced with opiates and dependency can debate that fact..

Either way, it's not impressive or cool to be more strung out than somebody else.. so you don't have to try and justify how bad your problem is.

Kratom doesn't even work for people with normal sized H habits or other strong opiate habits. No matter how much you take. I agree it is a great tool for maintenance or detox and most people would definitely rather take it than bupe or methadone, but the fact of the matter is that if you even have a mediocre habit, Kratom is not going to touch your withdrawals. Which is really unfortunate because I would love to be able to use Kratom for that purpose, but it's just not realistic for somebody with my using history. If ones addiction is at the level where Kratom will be effective, than I say go for it, it's a great tool

Fucking bitch!! I was done typing you a goddamm long response and I got fucking disconnect.. I forgot to copy FUCK I'M PISSED AND TIRED.... maybe I need a little kratom... I'll re-write my fucking answer tomorrow.. sorry man.

Hey! I'll respond to you too RobbotRipping, if you see this post ;) Cheers!

Haha. Frustrating I know. It's happened to me too.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but doesn't one of the alkaloids in kratom contain NMDA antagonist properties? It seems very weak IME. I think if it were stronger, it would be much closer to perfection as a maintenance drug with the goal of getting off opioids for good; perhaps closer to the strength of methadone.
I'm been trying the past couple months to make this happen, but the temptation to use again has been too powerful. I'm getting another 300 grams in a few days to try this again

OP: if you are abusing (not using, let's face it- that would be most peoples' assessment) then you're living the dream. IME, it just doesn't seem realistic to me. As a matter of fact, that's how I got where I am now; after a year and a half clean after tapering off methadone, I thought I'd try chipping and of course once a week became twice a week, twice a week became every few days, etc.
This was all before I discovered kratom though. With that at my disposal, things may have been quite different, although I do have to wonder if kratom on its own would continue to hit the sweet spot.

Now I'm utilizing the kratom to attempt to detox from insufflating HM's everyday. I haven't had much success thus far. Any tips OP? Thing is, I would prefer to stay off the kratom as well as other opioids. I'm not convinced kratom is very healthy; in fact the evidence (what little of it exists) seems to say that you're run of the mill oxy is actually physically healthier than kratom.

Oh, and it does sound like you're addicted to me. You're merely just maintaining off the kratom in between your 'real' opioid indulgences. I have to wonder how things would go for you if you took a week off of everything.

I'd say we don't disagree on much, overall...

Of course, a full-blown heroin addiction, whatever the MOA, is going to be harder, longer, more intense to kick than even the strongest kratom habit! I won't even begin to argue that fact. But it sure doesn't mean it's an easy thing to abruptly stop eating kratom after months or years of daily use... Those who had to c-t it wouldn't be too happy hearing you say (basically) that kratom withdrawals are just kiddie stuff. Your estimation ain't really fair imo. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the more painful, let's say smack wd is a 9 (methadone or Bupe wd, from what I heard, could be 10s), well kratom wd is easily a 6 imo. Yes, it doesn't last as long, and it may be less intense than H or Oxy wd, but it's still a dirty fucking bitch making you miss work, preventing you from performing your normal activities, keeping you home at the very least 4-5 days in a nasty fucked up state... and watching nonstop for that late UPS truck to get your fucking batch of Bali or maeng da... Never met anybody who went through that shit? Never read testimonies of ex-kratom enthusiasts on Erowid, Drugsforum or BL? I never had to kick kratom c-t (tapered very, very slowly as said before) but I do know what it does to me, what it did and might do again, and I sure can compare the immediate effects and the potential wd severity of kratom, Oxy, codeine or hydromorphone and even H (it never was my doc (I specialized in pharmaceuticals lol), I admit, but I did smack way more than just a couple times.)

''…if you even have a mediocre habit, Kratom is not going to touch your withdrawals.’’ (think I’ll answer Benjo also here..)

This is not exactly true. In my personal, first-hand experience in switching a moderate-sized Oxy/hydromorphone habit for kratom (I needed around 140-160mg/day Oxy to avoid wd), it is true indeed that the highest dose I could tolerate then without nausea (about 12-15 gr of good meng da) did not completely wipe out all my discomfort.. There was a 75% improvement of my condition, I’d say… I still needed some clonidine and shit to be kind of functional. By the end of the second week tho, I was completely stabilized and quite happy on my dose of kratom alone! Then I slowly tapered over many months until I made the jump… stayed completely clean for a few weeks.. wasn’t sick anymore but definitely into nasty PAWS, so I decided to resume use of kratom in a controlled manner, hopefully. And I claim that to a certain extent, it did work for me! Yes, I am still technically dependent on the stuff, and more broadly to opiates, but I don’t feel sick anymore when I abstain for days at a time. This has been going on for more than 5 years now. So, if you do have a very heavy smack habit, maybe kratom won’t completely cure you on the first week, maybe it will only eliminate 45 % of your symptoms, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t maintain you alright after 2-3 weeks, if you have access to benzos or lyricas and clonidine and/or other meds in the meantime…

Funny thing with kratom is that different folks (opiate-naïve or not) need wildly different doses for the same effects. And as Robot said for most people – including myself! – it is more of a stimulant than an opiate, for others it acts more as a pure narcotic, and some only feel nausea with kratom! I guess we do not metabolize it the same, and various strains really have various stimulant/narcotic effects ratios... And as suggested by Benjo I think, certain strains may even be moderately poisonous for all I know! Kratom is a strange plant. So, again, it may not work for you as well as for me and others… But if millions of hard-core opium addicts in South-east Asia did find help with this plant for hundreds of years, and millions today addicted to various opiates do find help with kratom, I can’t see why it just can’t be an option for most H addicts, even those preferring the IV route (after an adaptation to kratom, or a H taper period before the switch to kratom, maybe, like I suggested).

''Either way, it's not impressive or cool to be more strung out than somebody else.. so you don't have to try and justify how bad your problem is.'' Errr.. I couldn't agree more!!

One has to be ready to say goodbye to the real deal opiate euphoria, of course, something kratom won’t ever be able to provide… Dunno if I could say I did so completely lol!! Imo, kratom is a great maintenance option for opiate-dependent persons, maybe not for all, but surely for many… For me, for now, it is the solution. I do ''real'' opiates maybe once a month now, not even that in fact.. and not strong ones, mostly c-w extracted codeine and tram..

I could say much more .. for now gotta get going .. Will be back in a couple days with more time for Bluelight, and for answering you guys if you leave any other comments!

Have a great weekend and be safe BL cyber friends!

LMFAO I never knowingly did meth... unless some of the yeyo I had in my life was laced with it. I do enjoy ritalins when I get some, but unfortunately it's not a frequent thing. I know I WOULD enjoy meth, prob too much, don't wanna do any.. Crank scares me. Yeah, you could say I'm a fan of uppers! Not a frequent user tho.

I was tired and not very motivated to answer. I did it anyway cos good info about kratom is badly needed nowadays. Thought I was doing my part, relating my experience with the plant. I could've said more, but I just didn't have the energy... Guess I'll see your comment as a compliment, somehow lol =D
