If I can't make out some of the lyrics to a new album I like that I'm listening to then yes most of the time I check the lyrics
I love singing along, albeit alone but oh well
 
Holy shit lyrics make or break my opinion of the bands ability to play at all especially in concert. Maynard James Keenan of tool is my favorite singer/songwriter best concert ever:-) music is the opiate of the masses...
 
I'll explain myself better. The lead singer better be able to hit the notes too. I've never been in a bands. I know if Ringo Starr was the Beatles lead singer. They wouldn't have been as big as they were. Joplin, Jimmy Kurt Cobain. I digress though.

Depends on the genre. When I'm listening to hip hop, I always focus on the lyrics as the lyrics are the most important part of hip hop. Rock, depends on what kind of rock when I listen to King Crimson, Grateful Dead, Tool, Radiohead I found myself distracted by the music and lose focus on the lyrics, but Zeppelin or CCR for example I find myself singing along the lyrics.
