My family always made sure me and my brother kept a habit of reading. Through the years, with college and work, i kinda lost the habit of reading for pure pleasure but this year the sparkle ignited again and im looking for some recommendations!

My favorite genres are: Novel, Sci Fi, Fantasy, absurdist fiction and some religion sometimes.
My favorite book of all time might be The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

So, any recommendations are welcome, i wanna hear what people like as well and some books circling the theme of the website maybe?

Thank you!

A little edit here, i do like horror as well! Lovecraft is what i consumed the most

Got to give a big up to the Scottish Literature.

James Kellman - How Late it Was, How Late it was

Alisdair Gray - Lanark (you'll probably like for the fusion of your genres you mention)

And if course

Irvine Welsh - anything really

WOW, thank you for the good stuff, i didnt knew Scottish literature was so rich!!
The lanark was definitely a bullseye, i'll check it out asap!!

Lanark is awesome. Took me a while to chow through it but it was worth it. Definitely an epic

Welsh's Crime is another fantastic read, very dark but a real rollercoaster that's hard to put down.

Very happy to turn someone on to Scottish literature. There's a lot of good stuff.

Enjoy!

I'll give you my feedback once i read!

Since you mentioned being interested in religion, I found "Insights into Islamic Esoterism and Taoism" by Rene Guenon to be quite good.
Interesting! I only read about spiritism, cristianism and buddhism. Buddhism was definitely my favorite from them.
Always good to give it a try to a knew one!
Thank you

Jack Black - You Can't Win.
YCW_RECENT.jpg

"You Can't Win is an autobiography by burglar and hobo Jack Black, written in the early to mid-1920s and first published in 1926. It describes Black's life on the road, in prison and his various criminal capers in the American and Canadian west from the late 1880s to early 20th century. The book was a major influence upon William S. Burroughs and other Beat writers. The book tells of Black's experiences in the hobo underworld, freight-hopping around the western United States and Canada, with the majority of events taking place from the late 1880s to around 1910. He tells of becoming a thief, burglar, and member of the yegg (safe-cracking) subculture, exploring the topics of crime, criminal justice, vice, addictions, penology, and human folly from various viewpoints, from observer to consumer to supplier, and from victim to perpetrator."

It's also uploaded on Youtube as an audiobook but I much prefer it as a book.

Well I love Steven King.

He's known for horror sci fi, but he's got some fantasy books that are very good too. And short stories.

My favorite:
The Dead Zone
The Tommy Knockers
The Green Mile
Under The Dome
The Regulators

Fantasy:
Fairy Tail
The eyes of the dragon

Short stories:
The Bachman Book (lots of people don't know about this, one of his earliest, under a pseudonym)
You Like It Darker

He has many more famous ones (the stand, It, The Shining, ect) but those are not some of my favorite. I'm sure many would love to argue about that though.

A Treasury of Deception Liars, Misleaders, Hoodwinkers, and the Extraordinary true stories of History's Greatest Hoaxes, Fakes and Frauds by Michael Farquhar

Euphoric Wonderland an Eclectic collection of psychedelic poetry to stimulate the senses and open the mind. by Ryan M. Becker.

Aye, Richard Bachman aka Stephen King. Rage was and is a favourite. Loved it as a teenager. Probably enough said.

I know this might be obvious, but have you read or are interested in the Beat generation writers. ( kerouauc, Burroughs, William S, ect)

I have a sizeable book collection. Also, book collections I inherited. Not valuable, just lots on many subjects.

I have always found my self ingulfed more in non-fiction that is of historical nature. Political histories and conspiracy are fascinating.

Absurdist fiction,🤔 easy read; Becket, Waiting for Gadot. Play.( let me guess, no shit Sherlock). Have you gone through what are regarded as top 100 of western literature classics. I swear some of those just suck. Usually the ones we had to read in school.

Speaking of Sherlock, what about mystery? Are you an insomniac? Then try Russian literature.lol War and peace. Fuck that, just shoot me.

I have a collection of all sorts of the type of books you described. My little sister was into that and anime, scifi , horror, strange stuff also. I just boxed it up and stored it or left it.

From the description I will assume you read Nick Cave's, The Death of Bunny Munro. Do you wanna know what Irvine Welsh, author of Trainspotting wrote on the Jacket? If you haven't read it, tell me and I will give you the discription he gave.

Speaking off Beat Writer's. I just found my ( I saw the movie, yeah I know but still) One Flew Over the CooKoo's Nest.
Ken Kesey. Never read it, saw the movie and that takes the life and mystery from the book.

However, I don't care what anyone will ever say. The Shining, Steven king is one of the greatest miss, miss, miss, short story, huge hit.( Shawshank, Stand by me
