Do you find that smoking alone is better than drinking alone?

I don't smoke around people. It makes me psychotic. I loved it when I was a teenager, but now I only feel pleasantly high on the comedown. I have to be alone, in the woods, for positive effects.

i prefer drinking alone to smoking alone. back in the day i used to drink alone a lot just to enjoy the feeling if i couldnt go out and be with people. smoking alone got old after awhile

for some reason when i smoke alone i get much higher. i have nothing to worry about and i feel like i dont need to look out for anyone. i just get into a placid mind state and i get much much higher off less bud.

Usually now when i smoke it's always alone, i like to drink with my friends its more fun but dont mind drinking alone every now and then watch the game or just drink some beers smoke a bowl and go watch t.v.

That's because if you binge drink (any more than 3 drinks in one sitting) alone everyday, then you're an alcoholic, which is a totally different field than smoking alone every day. Unfortunately alcohol's main benefit (a social lubricant) is no longer useful, drinking by yourself is degenerative activity which really has no benefit beyond 1 drink and is harmful beyond 3. Just because they're the 2 most popular recreational drugs (after caffeine and nicotine) doesn't mean they should be treated the same or painted in the same stripe.

personally i dont think there's anything wrong with drinking alone. sometimes i got nothing going on and its fun to just sit there and feel the effects of alcohol and relax. my grandpa is an alcoholic tho, so maybe i like the effects of alcohol more than some people. at a party im always the last one to leave the keg and usually outdrink most of the people there.

yeah, you're probably an alcoholic.

Thats a massive stretch based on the information he gave. Showing some tendencies for sure though, all depends on what "sometimes" means really. To say he's "probably" a full blown alcoholic is pretty out there to say based on one fairly broad sentence though.

Beta's reply pretty much sums it all up.

Figured at least someone would see it just about that way haha.

ya for real. i just hit it hard on the weekends and i dont usually drink at all during the week. earliest i drink is thursday night. just cuz i really enjoy alcohol doesnt mean that i'm an alcoholic.

Smoking is much better alone, drinking is a social drug. Although I try to keep my drinking to a minimum as I don't care for it too much these days and prefer amphetamines for a social buzz.
I find drinking alone one alays ends up dwelling on the sad fact, that they are drinking alone, usually I get down like I'm a fuckup or I have no friends to drink with or whatever.
Smoking is pretty much a 24/7 thing for me, I smoke more alone than I do with people although I enjoy both. I don't like smoking around people I don't know well because it makes me less social, always do it anyway though ;p.
All that said, one or two longnecks of jimmy and coke go down a treat when smoking by yourself!

I don't even think MADD defines a binge as more than three drinks.

I also don't think you're in a position to diagnose anyone's alcoholism from your computer.

You use a lot of absolute statements where you needed conditional ones.

On the health benefits of moderate drinking (defined as 1-5 drinks daily for men, and 1-3 for women) (source):

"moderate consumers of alcoholic beverages (beer, wine or distilled spirits or liquor) are generally less likely to suffer hypertension or high blood pressure, peripheral artery disease, Alzheimer's disease and the common cold. Sensible drinking also appears to be beneficial in reducing or preventing diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, bone fractures and osteoporosis, kidney stones, digestive ailments, stress and depression, poor cognition and memory, Parkinson's disease, hepatitis A, pancreatic cancer, macular degeneration (a major cause of blindness), angina pectoris, duodenal ulcer, erectile dysfunction, hearing loss, gallstones, liver disease and poor physical condition in elderly."

So "degenerate" might not have been the right choice of words, and you're also a little bit wrong about its main benefit being social lubrication.

No shit, key word I used here being 'probably'. Guess what, unfortunately alcohol has the effect of reversing every single one of those benefits (except maybe deafness) with more than 'moderate' drinking. I use the number 3 as that's the average.
I dunno, drinking a solvent that cuts off activity from your brain to your spinal cord is pretty degenerative.
Alcoholism is a disease, the most accepted disease in our society.

I never have a problem smoking alone. Its just enjoying chill out time away from everyone. Its nice. I never smoked a lot by self though. I think there is a fine line with everything before it could turn in to a problem.

When I was a major boozer for 25+ yrs, I'd wake up in the morning & the 1st thing I did was pop a beer. After 3 DUIs in 17 yrs, I stayed at home more often drinking.
When I lived in Denver, my apt was within crawling distance of the local tavern I frequented, so driving wasn't an issue. I just got to the point in my mid-40s where the hangovers were lasting longer than the booze buzz...so it was time to quit drinking.
Now I know I'll never quit tokin weed after 40 yrs of it...& I never EVER felt shitty the following morning from tokin weed. Marijuana is a cure-all. I toke alone on a daily basis & enjoy every last hit!!
I never found drinking alone or toking alone as a problem. If that's the circumstance & nobody's around to toke or drink with, I fly solo. :\

i've drank alone a number of times and smoked alone even more and never felt bad about it. although i never did it to 'escape my problems' or anything. just to have a good time :)

Do you even know what the word 'disease' even really means? Or 'double-negative'? No? Didn't think so. I guess you don't need medical attention for heart failure, according to this guy! Ever been to an AA meeting? Ever wonder why parents and their kids like to drink together? Guess not.
