Do you beleive in ghosts?

I didn't read mush of this thread but I will give you advice not to fuck with the paranormal unless your willing to take the proper time to learn and practice.

I have used home made ouiji boards since I was 13 (not so much now as appartment buildings are not quiet enough) I have learned some disturbing things that I wish I had not stumbled upon. I have also dated a girl from the pagen religion and witnessed their whole family "close a door" on a trespassing demon. And I have a relitive who practices shamanism who has let me contact a spirit.

Aside from this, I will tell you I have never seen the ghost / spirit itself but I have asked them to close doors and lock doors, turn on lights, move chairs, and even touch my skin.

Here is a quick story: My mother works at the hospital on a floor called 4B North, essentially she tends to old people until they die or until they get shipped to an old folks home. Most of the people on her floor have been left there and abandoned by their family, they have no one and no will to live. It is pretty sad to see the dullness in their eyes at times. On this floor as well as others patients who are often seen talking cheerfully to their imagination, they all claim to be talking to a 6 year old girl in a red dress with blonde hair, a white wide brimmed hat, and barefoot. This little girl tells them it's alright to pass over and that she will be there for them. I personally find this very strange that over 200 patients at this hospital have made that same claim and died within 24 hours. I have witnessed this only once when I went with my mom on a night shift. The woman died around the start of the shift (8:00pm ish), the room was cleaned out and emptied. There were three nurses plus myself on the floor that night we were all in the nurse's station and all the patients were in bed sound asleep by 3am. Suddenly a call bell goes off (from the dead woman's room), we all wait anxiously as it keeps going ringing, it called 2 or 3 times before we answered "Hello?" *click* and the dial tone was heard. Myself and my mother went down to look at the room, it was dark and empty, the call bell was hanging in it's proper place and upon testing it nothing was broken or malfunctioning. As we left the room there was another call to the nurse's station (from the room we just left) but there was no sound made from inside the room (the call bells make a buz when your press them and then you hear it calling the desk). So we were only getting the calls from our end. I searched the whole floor for any patients who were out of bed, or anyone on the floor who may be playing a prank. The calls continued and we ignored them. Finally at quarter to six in the morning I answered the call, covering the speaking part of the reciever to be as quiet as possible, I placed it to my ear and heard a young female giggle with a distorted echo and then *click* the dial tone was heard again. This was enough to turn everyone in the room a shade of gray besides me, it fascinated me. After that the calls stopped from that room and to my knowledge it never happened again. But other than the nurses and myself that were there that night, no one believes that it was not a prank.

You went on a "ghost tour" and were surprised when you saw a "ghost"?
Correct. None of us were expecting to see or feel anything :)

The most likely explanation, is that the people who put on the tours also have someone dress up in a ghost costume and glide between some buildings on wheels, as an attention getting maneuver.
I assure you, I myself have entertained that as an explanation. But it doesn't make any sense. No one else in the group saw it because my family and I were lagging behind the rest of the group, it was way off in the distance, and it occurred way after anyone was in or around that building. The focus wasn't on that part of the property at all. Why would they choose that part of the tour to feign a ghost, when no-one was looking?

It's well known that one person telling another person a story can create false memories that the second person then remembers actually experiencing from then on. The power of suggestion can change other peoples' realities.
Yes I am well aware of that phenomenon :)

Do you? If so, have you ever seen a ghost? I want stories with details because i think i might have had an encounter.

By ghosts i take it you mean spirits, i do, what else can it be,

10 years ago i went to view a council house, the housing officer let me in i looked at the living room & kitchen which were both downstairs,
We then went upstairs looked at bathroom & 1 bedroom,
when i went into the other bedroom i just froze on the spot, sensed a feeling and turned to the lady and said has someone died in here,
she said no the lady that stayed here just got too old to look after herself so went to live in an old folks home, i forgot about it and excepted the house,

i moved in it was winter time so spent most of the next six months inside,
most nights i being woken up in the middle of the night with the noise of running water , investigating this i alway's found that it was my bathroom sink taps that had been turned on, i do mean right on not just dripping,
so i would turn them off and go back to bed,
i would ask my son who was 7 at the time if it was him, he said no,

this kept going on and i was sure it was my son playing tricks on me as it alway's happened when he was at home, some weekends he would go to stay with his dad,
i even gave him a serious talking to on the dangers of what would happen if the plug was in the sink and he was turning the taps on, he promised me it wasn't him,

then one weekend when he was at his dads i was woken up again with the taps running, i was spooked, also felt bad that i never believed my son,

summer came i started to do work in the garden
(the house only had a front garden and sat on a busy road with people walking past constantly)
people started talking to me, some didn't know but some did, so i was either getting asked "oh where's bill" im like "bill who's he" and i would be told" bill that lived there he sat in the garden every summer"

From the one's that knew i was told that bill had died in the bedroom i senced the feeling in only a few month before i moved in and his wife went to the home because she could'nt manage without him , i then realisedof who was turning on the taps,

anyway one night after i knew this again i woke up with the taps running,
i then i felt a presence/feeling coming into my bedroom i froze still in bed,
the presence/feeling kept getting stronger then it came right up to my face and went all the way round the back of my neck from left to right,
even though i am into this sort of stuff i still can't help getting scared,
So i spoke to him aloud and said "bill if you are looking for your wife she is not here anymore she is in an old folks home"
suddenly the presence/feeling dissapeared and everything felt normal
i turned off the taps went back to bed ,
i stayed ther for another 3 and a half years and the taps never turned on by themselves again,

well, IF i were to fake something like that, I'd totally place it not in obvious sight and somewhere obscure where some would see but others not.

Well I don't believe in a soul of any kind, only consciousness. And to be conscious you need an active brain. Without one the 'self' disappears. Therefore the concept of ghosts doesn't fit in with our current understanding, and it seems to me far more likely that this idea arose out of mans struggle to accept his own mortality. Ghosts offer us hope that there is something beyond this life waiting for us and our loved ones when everything points to the contrary. They're also pretty damn cool, so it's no wonder a lot of people want to believe in them.

I am firmly non-religious, I don't believe in a god, or an afterlife, or souls as distinguishable entities, or any of that malarky. I am not concerned about death and fully understand and accept that this life is all there is, there's nothing after we die. But I've seen things that are yet to be explainable by logical or scientific reasoning. So I'm open to other people's ghost "sightings"/"experiences" etc, and the concept of ghosts/spirits/whatever :)

A lot of people claim to have seen paranormal activity, all throughout history, and hey, even if it turns out that these things were just occurring as a result of something extraordinary happening in the human brain/consciousness, then that is pretty fucking amazing too! :D

I'm open to all possible explanations until we find an answer.

I don't doubt for a second for a second that you saw something you couldn't explain, but as for it being an actual ghost? Can't say I'm convinced. I could be wrong though. ;)

I know you said that you didn't expect to see anything, but you were on a ghost tour, right? So regardless of whether or not you expected to see one, the thought of ghosts was on your mind. This is probably going to influence you a great deal. Also things like pareidolia could explain what you thought you saw maybe?

Pareidolia

freaky!

i sort of believe in ghosts, but im not sure what to think to be honest. ive seen one, whether it was my imagination or not im not sure. me and my friend were drunk and we went on a little detour up this lane to this field where you can see the whole of town, and it looks quite nice all lit up in the dark. its a nice place to chill and have a cigarette. anyway, it was pitch black at around 2 in the morning, we walk up this old cobble lane... cant see anything walking up, but theres an orange glow of street lights shining at the bottom. we walked up, i needed a piss so i told him to carry on and i stopped for a piss... finished, did my buttons up and glanced down the lane... this white child like figure thing glided up the lane and over the bank into the trees. it glided in steps, like strobe vision... i stood there like... what the fuck was that. ran up and told me friend and we got the fuck out of there

Dude are you taking the piss?? Pareidolia is definitely not an explanation for what I saw :D

haha, nope. Was just throwing it out there. :] Dunno about you but theres been times when I thought I saw something/or someone, and upon closer inspection turned out to be something completely different. Especially at night time, or on certain substances. =D I doubt you'd be tripping with your family though....

In fact, that occurred today when I was out running: I thought I could see a person standing/walking about 200m ahead of me, and when I got closer I could see it was just the configuration of walkway signage that made it look like a person. I can recall many times when pareidolia has happened previously as well.
It's pretty cool that the phenomenon actually has a name! There's a name for everything isn't there :)

I used to and then I realized that like god, I can't believe in something if it hasn't an ounce of solid evidence (and by "evidence" I don't mean Jane Doe taking pictures of orbs or talking about her house being haunted). Ever since I came to this point, I have stopped "seeing ghosts." How odd... When I stopped believing, I stopped seeing.

I think that 99.9% of the time someone experiences something they believe to be paranormal, there is a logical, scientific explanation for it instead. I used to think doors shutting were "ghosts" when in reality it's air circulating. I used to think creaks and moans were spirits as well, and then I realized that chances are, it's the building settling into its foundation or something to that effect. I could go on and on here.

One instance I would like to mention happened this past winter in Lake Placid, NY during a ski trip with my s.o. and two other couples. We rented an old house that had been used in the underground railroad. It was indeed very creepy and old. Right away the other two couples assumed it was haunted and wouldn't you know it, they "saw" paranormal events happen right and left. Every time someone left a light on or turned it off, another person would assume it was Casper. My s.o. and I stayed quite amused by this. We would literally lie in bed at night and say, "Show us yourselves if you exist!" and holy crap, nothing happened!

I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying that until I actually see something I can't explain with logic or science--some kind of event that leaves absolutely NO doubt in my mind--I will continue to believe that the idea of "ghosts" is a bit silly. I'm not calling believers silly though, before anyone gets offended. I respect everyones' beliefs. It seems like everyone I know believes in ghosts and such and that's fine. I've just come to a point where I don't because in reality, 99% of these things can be explained. People just prefer to jump to conclusions and let their minds run crazy. If you believe in ghosts, chances are when you hear that door shut you're gonna automatically assume that it's a ghosty-ghost versus airflow. It's scientific fact that if you believe in ghosts, you also believe you experience them. If you don't, whaddya know, you don't see them.

I still think anything's possible though so if there are any spirits out there reading this, come visit me and change my mind. I would love to have a paranormal experience and I'm open to it, but I can't jump on this bandwagon until then :P
