Benzos Do doctors ever call a pharmacy to make sure you are filling your prescriptions?

Lets say a doctor agrees to prescribe a benzo on the condition that they also take a SSRI (anti depressant) . The patient agrees but plans to not fill the anti depressant, but the doctor call it into a pharmacy instead of giving you a written script. Does the doctor ever call the pharmacy to make sure you filled it?

Not that I have ever seen, but I would never say never. I used to fill my pain med and benzo, but not my anti inflammatory drugs or my muscle relaxers sometimes cuz they didn't do shit...

Couldn't you just fill both prescrips and then just not take the SSRI's lol?

Yes but depending on insurance and location that could be expensive

I've never had a doctor call the pharmacy to make sure a prescription's been filled or picked up. I imagine if the doctor was suspicious, he would be reluctant to write a prescription in the future.

That is a weird stipulation. Is it a short term benzo prescription to deal with the several weeks it takes for the SSRI to take effect? I honestly do not think a doctor will take the time to do that, but like someone wrote, you never know.

I will tell you this, just because a doctor writes a prescription, it most certainly does not require you to take the medication. I also do not think a doctor can prescribe 2 medications and hold you to any standard of having to take them both. Honestly if the dr was so concerned, they might've insisted they fax over the prescription.

BTW, if you have insurance, most SSRI's are pretty cheap. So why not just fill it and not take it if you are concerned about this? It might cost you like 5-10 bucks, but it also will leave you not having to worry about this question you have. I know I had a doctor prescribe me an SSRI before, it was citalopram (generic celexa), only was about $5 with my insurance.

It is not a common occurrence, but does happen. Doctors normally call to check the fill status of control scripts. Patient compliance is not a common premise. It's not impossible though.

Just get the SSRI filled and don't take it. I've heard of doctors doing this. All of the SSRIs are cheap except for Lexapro. We're talking 4 dollars a month at Walmart cheap.

I have had a doctor call me out for a script I had. I had a chest infection and bronchitis, they gave me a script for promethazine/codeine sryup, a steroid inhaler, and oral steroids. The inhaler cost 289 dollars!! So I just filled the sryup and oral steroid and when I came in a month later they asked " why did you not get the steroid inhaler, do you just come here for a script to cough sryup, etc" which is bullshit I really didn't go there to get high lol I just wanted to not be sick. And I wasn't paying 300 dollars extra for an inhaler. But normally no they don't check this was a unique case cuz I came back in a month later and they checked to see if I got all that they had prescribed the last time. Wackkk

I was also wondering that. My doc just accidentally wrote me a script for 200 9mg Hydromorph contins. It was supposed to be for 200 10mg oxy ir. I was worried the doc would realize he fucked up and would call the pharmacy to fix it. I was stoked to get the hydrmorph's instead of the oxys :). How would the doc even know which pharmacy you brought them to though if he needed to call ? Unless the pharmacy contacts the doc you're all good

Actually, in the case of controlled substances, all prescriptions are tracked. Like here in Colorado, if you go to one doctor and get pain pills or antianxiety pills and go to another doctor and do the same, when one of the doctors checks to see your prescription history, you're fucked as they'll usually alert the other doctor as well. There's actually a very broad range of doctors - from dentists to even vets - who can access this info.

Here's the site for Colorado but most states have their own -> http://www.hidinc.com/copdmp

That is an interesting situation. If I was in your shoes I'd just plead ignorance in the case that the doctor somehow became aware he made this mistake. Just say you thought they were some new generic form of the medication or some bullshit. Obviously he thinks you are eating them, whether you are or not they are still over 2x the strength when taken orally, so I can imagine you would be thrilled with the dr's mistake.

Shit that's alot of hydromorphs you lucky sob lol.
I filled a script of suboxone then like 8 months later, off the subs for 6 months already, I went to fill some norcos but they wouldn't do it cause the suboxone, wtf?

I work closely with medical doctors and no they do not call. They are too busy with all their patients to check up on those things. In fact most of them don't call the rx in. They have their employees do that.

I worried about that. I got a sub script once. What happened you went to the pharmacy and they refused you based on your past rx?

Yea i'm not sure what he was thinking. I will plead ignorance forsure. I have been suffering from severe back pain for over 10 years. The switch has actually made a big difference in my pain levels and have been doing very well on the hydromorph. When I go my refill I will just say i thought he decided to try something different, as they oxy ir's really weren't working very well in the first place. Hopefully he continues on giving me the hydro's but who knows. The funny thing is he did the same thing to my mom a week later, She takes the same meds as me. So when she went in asked for her refill he looked back to what he gave me for a reference, as where on the same med and gave her hydromorphs too haha. Maybe he is loosing it haha. I have been seeing he same doc since I was a kid however and we have a good relationship so we will see. I will let you guys know how it goes come refill day
