DMX induced Tinnitus (ear static), how long can it last ?
This happened entirely by accident. Time has told me that shrooms and lsd (and perhaps some native american and south american concoctions that ive never tried) are the only worthwhile psychedelics. And since I don't like dissociatives, Ive never even given DMX a try on a recreational scale. I did wind up taking a much larger than therapeutic dose by accident tho. Keep in mind I have not been sick with a cough in over ten years so my memories of
proper use of Dextromethorphan remedies may have faded. It was late, it was dark, I was in bed, and a small bottle of Robotussin Long Lasting Cough (DMX was only active ingredient) was on my bed stand. In the middle of a pretting nasty cold/upper respiratory infection, I wound up taking a couple chugs of it. I realized I had chugged nearly 3/4 of the 4 oz bottle -- upon having a PCP like feeling arise after about an hour. I didn't panic all, having considered myself a psychonaut at one time. The effects wore off, couldn't say I enjoyed them at all and they kept me up far longer than I wanted. Here is my question, after about 90 minutes of ingestion I developed a very loud static in my ears. This was 3 days ago, and while not as loud, the dam static is still there. I did research about DMX causing Tinnitus, but does anyone know when this will subside, and is there a point I should start to worry. I imagined that I ingested about 200+ mg. Like I said, I had not used cough syrup in so long and those little 4oz bottles almost seemed like sample bottles to me, esp late at night as it was. My bad......but help on the ear static please!

DMX is a rap artist.

I'm not exactly sure whether or not dxm is ototoxic, but I would go see a doctor right away. The chances of curing tinnitus in the case were it's permanent disappear the longer you wait.

DMX sucks. horrible music. it gives me ear static, too.

okay joke is over. you need to get to a doctor, as the person above me said.

From the OP: Dam if I didn't put DMX instead of DXM in the title. I tried to edit it, but guess you cant edit titles. Moderator if you hear me, please correct title.

Guys that have suggested seeing a doctor, well I did yesterday when I went to get some antibiotics for this chest infection. I told him what I did and that I was still having static in ears. He seems to be recommending lots of fluids (not just for the upper respiratory either). That type of basic suggestion did not surprise me after having researched treatments for tinnitus. There are no real treatments besides some speculative remedies such as taking melatonin......there are surgeries....nothing guaranteed. Part of my freakin career is as a sound engineer ....... this is madness (all for 3/4 of a 4 oz bottle?). Yes, my bad..... but dam. I will try to go back to original question and: pose has anyone had this dxm based ear static for more than a day and it went away? If so, how long? Note: I did search the forums and found that dxm based tinnitus is fairly common .... but 3 days and I am starting to worry. Not much doctors can do...unless you know otherwise.

You need to see an ENT specialist right after the onset of tinnitus and get corticosteroid therapy. Something along the lines of prednisone. Usually the prednisone treatment should be initiated no less than 36 hours after the onset of tinnitus. It's never too late and the sooner you act the better.

Yeah 3 days of this seems like you should be concerned enough to go to the doctor. I think you have definitely waited more than long enough to see if it would quickly improve on its own. Please go to a doctor. Just explain you took some dextromethorphan-containing cough syrup and you've had this loud static sound in your ears ever since.

(Also I'm not a mod for this forum so I can't edit your title in case you were wondering why I didn't do it).
