Hey everyone
This is my first post on BL, so feedback would be appreciated if i have started this thread in the wrong section/my images dont work

today i happened to spy a plant that looked suspiciously like obtusifolia. I took a small branch to help in identification and ive taken some photo on my phone (so sorry 4 the crap quality) .

The plant was a small mallee (multiple trunks). The leaves have that red edging (hard to make out in the photos) which is meant to be characteristic of DMT containing acacia's although ive never seen a plant in person. The leaves are a bit paler than i would have expected which makes me a bit unsure. I understand it is very difficult to id this plant from photo's, especially before the flowers open but some educated guesses would be appreciated

In other acacias the compound leaf is characteristic of a young growth while the simple leaf is common in the plants mature form. I am unsure whether this is the same for obtusifolia??

Thanks for reading :D

please edit out the location of where you were looking for the safety of yourself and others please! Sorry i cant be of more help.

might be worthwhile trying these two forums for better and more qualified advice:
http://www.australianethnobotany.com/index.php
http://www.bushfood.net/forum/index.php

although im sure each one will put a caveat on identifying the plant beyond reasonable doubt as their are sooo many similar taxonomies and subspecies of acacia. also encase you didn't know there might be legal issues around this soon as the attorney generals department is looking to make illegal the possession of many of Australians native flora!!!

me personally i like the advice from darren iif you come accross him in these sites, he has a passion for enthenobotany

Alright thanks for the quick responses guys, ill try the ethno forum and try to keep self incrimination to a minimum. peace all :D

It does look like Obtusi. Is there any red lining going around the leaves? If you look close enough, or use a decent camera you can see tiny red resin blobs if it is.

there is a red lining but it is more of a line and than dots, ive decided not however because of the single vein running down the centre, obtusi should have multipe parrel veins and the leaf should be darker and more transparent, thanks 4 the input but :D

Conservation rant

I wholeheartedly condemn the harvesting of Acacia sp found growing in the wild, If you correctly ID a desirable one take seeds and nothing else. Actually if you find fallen branches or whatever, take that, this is best done after a storm when the trees may have become damaged, but ringbarking beautiful old natives for some admittedly delicious tryptamines is wrong. Your conscience will nag at you relentlessly and just imagine what the machine elves are gonna do to you/your soul

Grow your own, there's nothing as satisfying as producing your own sacrament

edit: (ps I dont believe in the machine elves, but don't tell them that)
