Time for a new reason,
Time to get out there...
"Put on your face, put on your pout..."
Make sure that you're noticed.
Laugh a little louder,
so that they'll look at you.
Everyone wants to be friends with the girl that makes them laugh.
Impress them with your intellect.
Spout off facts and figures,
let them roll off of your tongue.
Everyone wants...
everyone wants to
know who you are.
You can do this darling,
you've done it before.
It's time,
It's time to
work what you've got.
Stick out those hip bones,
while your pants hug them.
Let your buttons come undone
as your bra peeks out.
Maybe,
then maybe
they'll notice
without your having to shout.

I do not wear make-up
or use hairspray or gel
I do not follow fashion
Some people like girly-girls
Some people like tomboys
Some people like women who just sit there and look pretty
Some people like women who teach philosophy
Some people like women who eat salads
Some people like women who eat burgers
I have given up many things in my life
I have given up organized religion and meat
But the most important thing I ever gave up
Was my concern for what other people think
Divas are the most boring people in the world to me
-Aura

I wrote "Diva" for a friend of mine who chooses to attract people in that way. She's very intelligent, yet she chooses to surround herself with plastic and shallow people. There's nothing really wrong with being a diva, except that one day someone's going to see you without your make-up and the spell will be broken. Diva's are not boring, they're very sad creatures.

I agree, sad is definitely the word for them. It's never good to rely completely on something you know to be fleeting - and total faith in a beauty that is purely physical is sad.
This is so well done, Sara! You captured all the different emotions perfectly.

Thank you, Dags. You are a beautiful person inside and out :)
Women end up in competition all of the time...
Who looks prettier?
Who has the best clothes, hair, etc.?
We all know that it's really not about that, it's about a connection.
It's hard to connect with a plastic doll for very long ;) Sure they're pretty to look at and play with but for the long haul, too much maintenance.
There's nothing wrong with making yourself more attractive, but if that's all you're focusing on you may attract the wrong person.

Very cute :) There are tons of plastic people in my area - I never try too hard-I may not get noticed all the time, but when I do, it's genuine and they're usually the ones I'd want to notice me.
I love Diva's though...like watching them get ready, watching em work it-I suck at beauty anything so it's fun. If we were all the same, it'd be boring.

I like Sara's first post, it didn't appear to judge, only to expose.
I never thought there was anything wrong with people accenting their physical/childlike selves - probably needed in their time of life.

i really like this. a lot of people have been writing some optimistic stuff lately. its time we get happy girls!!
keep up this attitude girlfriend. it will take you far in life :)

You're right, Catalyst. In an attempt to explain the motivation for this piece, I went sort of judgemental. I wanted this to come from an observer's standpoint, sort of a narrator's standpoint. We should be able to allow others the luxury of being different because we like to have the luxury of being ourselves. Thank you for the reminder :)
