Dissociatives, Psychedelics and your Circadian Rhythm

When I take dissociatives late in the day, close to bed time, I need to overcome an inertia, it is as if the drug is less potent. If I however take a dissociative around breakfast time, even a low dose rocks my world. Dissociatives to me seem most potent earliest in the day and first doses tend to be less impressive the later you take them in the day.

Psychedelics seem to take another pattern, the same dose, taken later in the day, seems to affect you more then when you take it earlier in the day. On the same dosage, afternoon trips tend to be less impressive than evening trips.

Does anyone notice effects on how psychedelics and dissociatives affect them, that are relative to the time of day they are taken in?

The only time I've ever noticed the time of day mattering is in relation to the sun interfering with open eye visuals.

Other than that, I don't think that there is any significant difference in the drugs related to timing of the dose.

I think it's because when you awake, your system is a lot more clean than as opposed when you are going to bed. When sleeping, the body cleanses itself. When awake, you consume various substances which makes the drugs you ingest seem less potent if you're going to dose later in the day. Also your state of mind varies each moment of the day so yeah it's not crazy to believe that taking drugs early in the morning is more potent than later at night.

Asante, I agree completely! I had brought this topic up here on Bluelight before, but I don't think anybody else shared the same opinion at the time.

I think, with regards to dissociatives, it's because being sleepy tends to dull the effects. Therefore, they have the best effect in the morning, during peak wakefulness.

With psychedelics, I'm not sure why they work better at night. For me, they seem to have much less negative side-effects at night, allowing for more pure and uninhibited mind exploration.

This is something I pay attention to when taking almost all drugs, but for me I think the opposite patterns are at play. For some reason, I've always associated dissociatives (that sounds like a koan line or something) with darkness/sleep in general and so I like to take them in a completely dark room. Plus, I like when I fall into a semi-dream state while on a dissociative, such as when using an opioid. I also find that things like ketamine and MXE are stimulating enough for their duration that this won't happen until the tail end of the trip, IME.

With psychedelics, it's not so much that I don't like tripping at night, it's just that they tend to throw off my entire circadian rhythm and makes me exhausted for the next few days. I generally have a sensitive sleep cycle and need like 10 hours a night.
