Hello guys,

So I got some dihydrocodeine pills which are XR. I've read that you can beat the time release with sodium bicarbonate also known as baking soda. I tried this, it seems to disolve the pills nicely. But I have a few questions:

1) Does it matter what's the pH level of the mixture of water, baking soda and dihydrocodeine? If yes what's the best number to go with?
2) What should be the water tempeture?

I think it takes more than just bicarbonate water to defeat a typical XR medication. Where did you read that's all you need?

Dihydrocodeine has a pKa of about 9. You would probably want to the water to be at pH 6 or 7, to ensure you don't leave DHC behind as a solid, water-insoluble free base.

As for extraction temperatures, higher is generally better, but going over 100C is probably unwise.

Also, have tried with citric acid, did not work so good as bicarbonate. And maybe probably even 100 C is too much, probably at some tempeture will destroy DHC if it too high. But don't know how much is too high.
