There's nothing you want, more than happiness
yet you smash it down
like you snuff out a cigarette.
You strive for a life that your parents can be proud of
yet you barely make it through the day
without acting like a child.
All these dreams and projects
half-finished
on hold,
waiting...
Each day you drag yourself
out of bed
hoping for hope
wondering if you'll be able
to focus
in a world where everything
is happening so fast.
You'll finish that painting,
that book,
and the laundry.
You'll remember times
when you were smiling
and wonder why
you didn't enjoy them
much more
while they
were happening.
Sometimes when the sun is out
you catch a glimpse
you feel like,
this is the day
you can
lay it all down
and walk away.
yet you smash it down
like you snuff out a cigarette.
You strive for a life that your parents can be proud of
yet you barely make it through the day
without acting like a child.
All these dreams and projects
half-finished
on hold,
waiting...

wondering if you'll be able
