does anyone else feel a profound sense of loss when finishing a good book? If its really good sometimes i have trouble breathing ha.

Yeah, I know the feeling. The last time I had it was when I finished Luke Beesley's Lemon Shark.

Although it's a feeling I'd normally associate with novels. Jonathan Safran Foer's novels spring to mind.

What are some examples for you, Amebix?

Oh, god yes!

Always, in some degree unless I really disliked/was bored with the book - but some books in particular are like endings of relationships, the come-down and loss is so bad.

The most recent example I can think of was "The Bride Stripped Bare". I was enjoying it so much that when I realised I was coming to the last few pages, I actually physically couldn't read them because I knew it was going to be sad, that world I'd been a part of was going to end. :(

I waited - like seducing a lover - until exactly the right time, with a glass of wine and lit candles, and took a completely empty indulgent afternoon to slooowwwwwly, slowly read the last bit. Some books I gallop towards the finish but some you need to give the respect they deserve.

For me it's not just the book itself but the whole mindframe it puts me in every time I pick it up: I enjoyed being that person with that book.

The most recent one was The Dark Elf trilogy. Drizzt kicks ass.

...yeah. I want to take more adventures, but the characters are done. It makes me sad, but hopeful, having known a good story.
