Discussion about requests for thread-deletion by OPs

Would someone like to explain just where the fuck a lot of this thread's content went? After spending a lot of effort on this discussion, only to have large portions of the context destroyed, i'm not happy. Only chinup's content has disappeared, selectively out of this thread, and her location now reads "fuck off", (well, maybe it was that beforehand, but I don't remember it) so there's obviously a pretty satisfactory answer around.

I'll give it a try MattPsy.In an unlocked thread, such as this one at the moment, members can soft delete their posts and no remnant is visible to other regular members. I have no way of telling if that is what happened but its my best guess as to what happened as there wasn't rancor, rule breaking, or disruption. Members contribute posts and for the most part they get to withdraw their contributions if they desire to. If you PM a mod of this forum, they can tell discern a lot more about what happened and might have the time and interest to tell you some of what happened to some of the content if only to say member deleted or deleted by member request.

It could be they post passwords, techniques, and cheat codes for taking over this program/simulation and the posts were UAed to not give anyone the upper hand. ;)

The OP did not wish to delete the thread; rather, they wanted the posts non-attributable to them, but the content left in place. Now the context is annihilated. Good job :/ waste of effort contributing more it would seem at this point. Perhaps someone else would like to.

I'll just leave this here for any interested person(s): http://arxiv.org/abs/1201.3398

i exchanged several private messages with the op and that was not the wish as communicated to me. indeed, i told the op exactly what i was going to do to address his/her concerns and the op did not object.

while your feedback is welcome, i believe you're incorrect.

The quote I saw in regards to instructions says otherwise; please don't bring this up with them, they've clearly had enough of the administration here, so I don't wish to further their issues. Rather, consider it an issue raised by myself. I strongly object to the removal of content, especially where a large amount of time and effort has been spent on it, not just by one poster but [indirectly] impacting many; make it non-attributable, sure, but don't remove the content. I'm sure you'd love to have this conversation in private, but I think it's an issue that would concern most here, not a very small minority, and as such I think it deserves to remain public.

^Copy right belongs to the creator of content without the creator having to register it or do anything or provide any notice. If someone wants to withdraw their original posts- I think its best to let them. Vbulletin is set up by default to allow the first poster within a thread delete the entire thread. Its also set up to allow users to delete their individual posts within a thread. A ton of How BL & other boards work came about through how the software works rather than through policy decisions. On that note the forum for to float an idea about changing or creating policies is Support.

i'll agree to disagree with you. if the op has an issue, s/he can take it up with me privately. i find this schoolyard message relaying a little childish and entirely inefficient.

the op deleted the entire thread taking with it not just his/her content but everybody's content! my split of the thread recovered all but the content of the op and was in line with the op's request to me. again, s/he also did not object to my proposal so i'm quite comfortable i acted appropriately here.

your assumption is quite incorrect. i'm perfectly comfortable discussing my actions as a bluelight staff member in public. if 'most' posters here disagree, they're free to contribute their thoughts.

your comments and my replies are dragging this thread way off topic. i assume that you agree that's a bad thing? i'll talk to the forum staff about a better home for this.

we do let them! what we don't do, however, is let individual bluelighters delete the posts of other bluelighters. i believe our position is entirely consistent with your comments.

perhaps off topic discussions could be put in a labelled NSFW tag, like this post. then we can go at two threads simultaneously, all multiple personality like.

i don't like to assume but i'm going to assume that the deafening silence in response to this thread suggests that the forum is happy with - or at least tolerant of - the status quo?

I delete my posts all the time. I will just do a search on my own stuff and delete delete delete. I think im entitled to(well, i know i am). Why do i do it? Usually because of horrible paranoia while stoned. :)

^ bluelight users have always been able to delete their own posts. nobody's suggesting that you should not be entitled to do that, nor does this thread discuss that in any way.
