Disaster looms as oil slick reaches US coast

You girls should of had a "gotten all oily and wrestled" for the environment.... Can make a youtube video for support.... ;)

Btw the thing is still leaking....

"With the Gulf oil spill dominating the news cycle, journalists are flocking to the region. But getting down to Louisiana is the easy part. Once there, journalists are finding that BP — aided by local and federal officials — is making it difficult to cover the environmental disaster."

The British Petroleum oil spill is threatening the entire eastern half of the North American continent with "total destruction," reports say.

An ominous report by Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources warned of the impending disaster resulting from the British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas leak in the Gulf of Mexico, calling it the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history, the European Union Times reported.

Russian scientists believe BP is pumping millions of gallons of Corexit 9500, a chemical dispersal agent, under the Gulf of Mexico waters to hide the full extent of the leak, now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day.

Experts say Corexit 9500 is a solvent four times more toxic than oil.

The agent, scientists believe, has a 2.61ppm toxicity level, and when mixed with the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, its molecules will be able to “phase transition.”

This transition involves the change of the liquid into a gaseous state, which can be absorbed by clouds. The gas will then be released as “toxic rain” leading to “unimaginable environmental catastrophe” destroying all life forms from the “bottom of the evolutionary chart to the top,” the report said.

Niiiice....... Thank you BP!

The MSDS for Corexit 9500 lists the lethal concentration (at 48 hours exposure) at 20.7 mg/L (for brine shrimp). Even though its completely miscible in water, the idea that every bit is going to evapotranspirate, accumulate against the gulf stream over the eastern seaboard, and then rain down on us (given that it has a different density and vapor pressure from water) causing total ecological catastrophe is pretty fucking ridiculous.

Use your head, or let some fly by night Russian "scientist" use it for you-- your choice.

eh, i don't really think you can properly gauge flow at several dozens of atmospheres of pressure by the size of the slick on the surface. Personally, I'm reluctant to believe there are multiple breeches just because.

As for tankers, why not?

fuck this, send in the nuke and super tankers. I'm drunk but it seems like a pretty good option atm.

at the salon we have like 49853904859034 bags of hair we're sending to mattersoftrust.org

cleanin up the gulf coast
one expensive haircut at a time

^^ big up to saving hair...its a start.

and lol at the girls with their cell phones and plastic water bottles holding up the protest signs. at least their lip service is in the right place :D

......I guess that goes for all of us 8)

those are some grand isle girls

imagine how much farther things could get if reasonably attractive girls in bikinis did all the protesting

Louisiana is fucking awesome

Officials from Jefferson Parish claim BP bused 400 cleanup workers into Grand Isle on Friday in time for a visit from President Barack Obama.

Jefferson Parish Councilman John Young said the workers were brought in to clean oil off Grand Isle's beaches.

The extra workers were brought in for Friday only, at a rate of $12 an hour, officials told WDSU. They were mostly from Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes.

Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts didn’t buy into the cleanup effort.

"They must think we're all fools," he said.

Roberts called BP's efforts "shameful."

"The level of cleanup and cooperation from BP in the last week in no way compares to the effort shown on the island today," Roberts said. "This is a total shame that a mockery has been made of this visit by the executives of BP."

During a visit Friday to Louisiana, Obama toured a beach where tar balls are washing ashore and attended a briefing at a Coast Guard station in Grand Isle.

Roberts said that since oil started coming ashore in Grand Isle last week, no more than a dozen workers hired by BP have been seen on the beaches in the area, until Friday when the president arrived.

Sneaky little fuckers...

I personally think those camera shots [live oil leak cam] are bullshit. There is so many lies and disinformation out there but its nice [I guess] to see the president out there being a talking head what the 2nd time in 40 days? Gimme a break, what a joke. It is embarrassing.

If in fact that pipe is real :) why dont they hook up some kind of massive vacuum pump over the plumes and suck that shit up.

peace.
seedless
