I apologize if this is not the correct place for this post but I would like some insight on this.

15 minutes ago I received a call from a legal counsel representing a friend who had on him 3 grams of diphenidine. This substance was suspected cocaine by police. The numbers here don't add up.

He is now awaiting a court hearing next week but the bail is set at $10,000 or $20,000 USD bond (meaning if I go to a bondsman instead of posting $10k bail cash) which seems excessive.

I called the county sheriff's department in NY and was told that the charge is "criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree"

The substance was indeed diphenidine but I don't know what field tests the police used. I assume it's going to test positive under the arylcyclohexylamine class of compounds.

He has no priors (I am being honest) and no other charges against him, although he did have 2 grams of weed on his person but this is decriminalized in New York City. I called multiple times to confirm this and was told the same thing: No charge except "possession of a controlled substance in the 5th degree" but he may have pissed off the police by not cooperating, probably because he was on diphenidine at the time of arrest. He did not touch or hit an officer but was laughing hysterically at the time of arrest. But still, the $10,000 bail seems excessive given the quantity and him having no priors.

Your friend should speak with an attorney. Bluelight no longer has a legal discussion section so I have to close this.
