I've noticed through reading all the trip reports, that most people have a bad experience with diphenhydramine (diph.) or Benadryll. Sometimes people see things that are scary to them, such as spiders. But through my use, of over a year, I've seemed to figure out how to get the high that I'm looking for with it.
I don't like using diph if I have anything to do. If I have to work, or go around town, or even converse with people that I'm not particularly close to, I'll definitely wait to take it. Tolerance does build up quickly. I've noticed that if I use it more than one night consecutively, I normally have to raise my dose by 25 mg each night. To start with though, you'd want to start with about 6 25mg pills, or 150mg. Dosing too high is what causes the deleriant effects, and causes scary visions.
Last night I dosed at about 3:00 AM, since that's when I get home from work. I dosed 275mg. Which is 11 benadryll pills. From dosing, I have about 30-45 min to get anything done and set up that I want to. I get in my jammies, set up my laptop for some youtube viewing, get some pot ready, and maybe make something to eat. (Later on, diph tends to make me hungry)
About 30-45 min into it, you start to feel...dreamy. It's sort of like being drunk, but sort of like being stoned. Except, there isn't the same brain-deadness. You aren't quite as stupid. You can still focus on things, you can still remember information, you can still write clearly, you just don't necessarily want to do anything productive.
The high peaks after about an hour to an hour and a half, and lasts about 3-4 hours for me. At the peak, I tend to feel almost like I've taken an opiate. It's really easy to get really "into" things. Last night I started to watch VSauce Leanback playlists on youtube, and didn't want to stop for hours. Everything becomes so interesting, and time goes by quickly. It's a great "boredom" high. Something to take when you're not really doing anything else, you're just bored, and want to experience an alternate perception.
At the peak, my body feels delayed, like it takes a split second to lift my arm after I've told it to. It's also easy to get lost in your thoughts, and they're the type of thoughts that you used to have when weed still got you "middle-school high". Contemplative thoughts that make you want to keep thinking.
Sometimes my heart starts to race a little bit, and sometimes I get restless limbs (like RLS, but everywhere), but it doesn't happen frequently, and it's usually when I took an extra pill after deciding that it wasn't kicking in fast enough, so that's usually my own fault.
The best part of the diph high, is that nothing is boring anymore. Everything is interesting. You can watch movies for hours, play some video games (not as well as normally, admittedly), or read some trip reports or a book. You just feel a little different while you do it. It's super hard to explain the exact feeling. The best way really seems to be "dreamy". Nothing is "dreamlike" in the sense that it's weird and unrealistic, your body just feels like it's in a dream. You may wake up the next morning and question if things were real, or if it was all a dream, but you will remember it all.
About two hours into the high, you start to feel like munching on something. Nothing too heavy, because your mouth is usually kind of dry, and anything "meal-like" feels like it takes too much effort to eat. I usually want something that I can just stick into my mouth and crunch or chew on while I watch, write, or read something. Normally it ends up being chips or candy. Sometimes I do end up hungry enough to go in and cook something quick up. It's not difficult to cook, and everything turns out tasting just fine.
Usually about 4 hours into the high, I start to come down. This brings with it an overwhelmingly tired feeling. You just wanna go crawl in the covers and go to dream land. Which is exactly what I did. Five minutes later, I'm fast asleep. It's easy to go to sleep during the high as well, since diph is very sedating.
Personally, when I wake up the next morning, I'm a little groggy for an hour or so, and then everything is back to normal. All in all, a good high for when you're alone, or with just a couple people.
WARNING: Mixing diph with stimulants can cause your heart rate and blood pressure to skyrocket to dangerous zones. Mixing with other downers or too much alcohol can cause your heart to slow down, also to dangerous zones. I have no proof of this, only previous experiences.
