Dilaudid side effects?

Hi,

I have only experimented with low doses of codeine before, so I pretty much have a 0 tolerance to opiates. I recently acquired an abundance of 1 mg Hydromorphone IR tabs, as well as 3 mg hydromorph contin capsules. I took 2 mg of the 1 mg tabs yesterday, and took my blood pressure while on it and it was sky high, 156/101, pulse 95. I read that it can lower your blood pressure, but I haven't seen any reports of raising it. Is this normal for that low a dosage? It also gave me a bit of a nose bleed, which is closely related to high blood pressure. I usually have fine blood pressure, which is why I think the pills might be the culprit. Any input appreciated, Thanks!

2 milligrams is a moderate dose for someone who is opioid naive, perhaps causing severe hypoventilation, follow by an increase in blood pressure.

So it was respiratory depression? I felt pretty good other than the numbers I saw, so basically I could die from it? I thought low to moderate doses were relatively safe, heh especially with the low BA of it.

I am wondering whether you took something else with it that synergistically could be responsible as those aren't typical side effects. Even over the counter medicines and some herbs could account for the effects noted.
You also fail to note your ROA and although I assume PO, anxiety regarding novice IV administration could also account for the changes as well.
Anyway, caution is order with your next administration. Though those readings are not likely life threatening unless you are suffering from cardiac infirmity, it never hurts to error on the side of prudence, when exploring unfamiliar substances.
If no other substances were involved and only oral administration was used, you might try a 1mg dose next to see if the cardio stress is still evident before trying higher dosages.
One more bit of advice. I get the impression that you are opiate naive, so I will tell you what I wish I had been told when I was. Physical dependence is a real risk with opiates and a horrible nightmarish outcome of their abuse easily avoided by adherence to this simple rule: never take doses on two consecutive days, or always allow 48 hours between doses of most opioids. Long acting opioids like methadone require more time between doses, methadone for instance, is risky to take more than twice a week.
If you limit your usage this way the horror of opioid addiction can be avoided and recreational use enjoyed indefinitely.

Thanks for the advice. I know a fair amount about opiates from research on this site etc, however no experience actually doing the drug. I am doing them orally and I lacked to mention that I started an antibiotic the same day I took them, but didn't see any interactions on the antibiotic panfelet. I've had bronchitis the past little while and also took a recommended dosage of Robitussin DM. I guess that would have been helpful to know at first.
