I don't have enough experience to answer this question myself but I would love to hear the opinions of you guys.

I'm not saying drugs always destroy people but if they do, I'm interested in the typical path that destruction takes and how it differs between drugs.

Let's take these five (but feel free to add any other drugs in): Heroin (or other opiates), Meth, Cocaine, Benzos, Alcohol. What is the typical way that each of these might ruin a person? As an example of what I mean, I might hypothesize that cocaine is more likely to ruin a person financially, whereas alcohol which is cheap is more likely to ruin a person's physical health.

Not quite sure what you are looking for but I will chime in. I was a RN up until 2006 when I forced myself to retire or stop. After numerous interventions from od's job changes geographic cure, what have ya, was in state recovery program X2 but just decided I didn't want to be caretaker anymore, or that's what I thought. Well I have done most all opiates oxy being favorite I figured I would change careers an get away from it all. Well here I am 2015 still fighting for a day clean still in love with oxys, tried h for about month but went back to oxy just coming of tolerance of bout 200 mg x2day. I don't know if this helps ya but to this day I am still trying figure out where I fit in life. I went into food services which is my passion still using. No matter what I do I love being high, I have spent lots of money on habit of which I hate myself for. Just got health insurance kicks in on 15th so I plan to go to doc get bloodwork done. I have no social lif cause my few friends are users, I am working on my 3rd day clean atm

Thanks bonomoo,

Keep fighting the good fight. I love oxys too, wish I didn't! I also love being high. Even when things are good in life I want that something extra.

Anyway my question was a bit different and I don't think I was very clear so apologies. What I'm getting at is we all know drugs can destroy people. But I was interested in views people have on the WAY different drugs can ruin a person. Or whether it's all basically the same. For example are certain drugs more likely to result in joblessness? Other drugs more likely to lead to severe physical illness?

Got it, I am new at this bear with me. So I guess my answer could be yes, drugs ruined my career but I let it happen that way. I had numerous chances to "recover" but I never stuck with it. I was jobless for awhile I can remember my ex's father, well my father in law, god rest his soul bringing me $90 one day so I could buy food, and that was all he had at the time, I've never forgotten that day.

They all fuck you up financially. Ive mad 60k in a year and 20k in a year each time addicted to drugs. The more you make the more drugs you do. Alcohol may not immediately effect you financially but in one way or another itll get you. Job loss, legal trouble, hitting your head and going to hospital itll cost you something. Ive been addicted to opiates since 19 im 26. Thousands of dollars ugh cant think about it. But my DUI hit and run costed 15k. And ive had my share of shooting speedballs where a grabd is gone in a week.

Being honest with oneself is not easy. Hope i gave you something you were looking for.

In general booze, coke, amps, opiates will in someway or another fuck you up financially, along with your health, with a good chance of legal troubles. (Not opiates so much for health but you know what i mean)

Anyone young reading this; get out while you can with your life still in tact.

Ok, I will give my opinion now. It mirrors what nygiantsfan1313 already stated. If you seek out and take any drug for long enough time, it is highly likely your behavior will devastate you financially, physically including death, or through the criminal justice system. Most of us are not wealthy enough that a big time habit is sustainable without neglecting our other responsibilities. Chasing an ever growing addiction can quickly lead to crushing debt, loss of personal possessions either through repossession or pawning items for drug money, and homelessness. Even if a person has a stable job, drugs and addiction can alter their mood, appearance, and behavior to a point their employer may see them as a liability and dismiss them which obviously can ruin one financially.

Nobody doubts that drugs taken in excess can also wreak havoc on an individual's body and mind. These effects can be acute, such as having a heart attack from too much cocaine or take years to develop into a serious medical problem, as in alcoholics developing cirrhosis. I will also add that sometimes it isnt the drug itself causing the issue, rather certain aspects of using. The best example of this would be an IV drug user getting HIV or other blood borne diseases through sharing needles.

I probably don't need to say much about how the criminal justice system can destroy a person as we all see, read or personally experience it. Unfortunately drugs are illegal in most places and even a single offense can make future employment and a host of other social issues utterly difficult. And if you are a repeat offender or serve significant prison time, forget about it. It is no wonder why recidivism rates are so high many of those who serve time still return to using or dealing drugs even upon release.

And sadly, all these issues cannot only just destroy one person, but entire families and communities but the scope of that issue is too complex for me to go into. I don't think any of what I said is particularly enlightening, but the take home point is any drug or addiction is potentially devastating and it is too difficult to point the finger at any one being worse than another.

Thank you for the post Kitty. Very interesting. Yes, I'm facing up to the truth of what you're saying.

I have no exact clue because I used cocaine but I felt it to danger - because of the hangover. Hmm, I would contact an good Shaman from Columbia.

Because I know someone who died because he like coke so much. One time - he was sober- he came home to his son.
The son suffers from ADHS so he has a lot of prescribed Ritalin. The father snorted about 40 of them and died from a heart attack. Later the son must go to psychiatric hospital because of that.
