Difference Between Sparknoting and Reading a Book?

I don`t consider it pretentious to mention a book you`ve read and enjoyed. You, yourself mentioned `..[something which] interests you and captivates your mind..` so if this subject matter is deemed to be too difficult by some, why should it be labelled pretentious or `name dropping`? Why is it only `name dropping` if you refer to something unpopular, when someone is equally guilty of `name dropping` if they say they like Mickey Spillane, Danielle Steele or Britney Spears? (there I go again, `name dropping`)

well, if it's something you enjoy and genuinely interests you then you really aren't reading just for the appearance of being intellectual. but earlier you said you never read purely for enjoyment, which i find somewhat sad because that is generally the reason why i read a book--for enjoyment.
