Difference between opiates & benzons?

So could someone give me the definition, for what the difference is between benzos and opiates.

opiates stimulate opiate receptors, responsible for the feelings associated such as euphoria, pain relief, sedation or conversely excitability - many are derived from codeine and morphine, extracted from the poppy plant. Many opiates (oids) are also synthetic, but even these are usually synthesized from codeine or morphine.

What little I actualy know about benzos is that they affect the GABA receptors (as well as others?), causing sedation, relaxation, and other effects similar to alcohol or ghb.

sorry if u wanted a scientific answer, i just didnt feel like digging it up off the internet.

Good answer.

Asking the difference between benzos and opiates is like asking the difference between...caffeine and amphetamine...or between any two very different classes of drugs.

Benzos and opiates are both 'downers' (they depress the central nervous system) and so they can make you drowsy/relaxed...but that is where the similarities end.

Benzos themselves actually fall into two categories - those which have the primary function of aiding sleep (like teamzepam) and those which have the primary function of easing nervous tension (like diazepam or oxazepam.)
Of course several Valium will also put you to sleep, and a Normison will still help you chill out, but they function in slightly different ways.

difference between opiates & benzos

the difference is an opiate is cleaner than benzos they don't have all the other shit as benzos do. You should just smoke an opium poppy by itself and you'll see the difference.between the two. To many bezos makes you feel crap not like the poppy

Dude, that was one of the most idiotic answers I have ever read. How are opiates "cleaner" and what other "shit" do benzos have?

Personally I agree with the part about opiates being a cleaner high. Benzos often make me feel rather dirty.

Don't Flame. . . it's isn't very nice. . . you were a greenlighter too. . . .just let them get the hang of the board. . . . Ignornace always shines thru. . . . it doesn't have to be pointed out. ;)

I don't think opiates feel any 'cleaner' than benzos. If anything they feel dirtier to me, because of the nausea that accompanies them. Benzos have very few side effects for me (other than amnesia with klonopin).

The only drugs that feel 'dirty' to me are the 5-meo's, and the 2cs. Too much body load/GI effects/muscle tension. Also weed makes me feel dirty because it makes me feel hungry and then I munch away and feel guilty and fat.

IMO

Opiates - Warmth, Comfort, Relaxation, Euphoria

Benzos - Sedation, Confusion, almost no euphoria, warmth, or pain relief... Pretty much if you took all the good parts out of an opiate high, you are left with the benzo high..

Though a low dose of benzos can be good to chill in front of the TV with..
