Dieting with Drugs

You noted less tolerance with Ritalin than the amphetamines...the possibility on my going on Ritalin has been discussed with my dr. if the Adderall tolerance continues...I am worried that if I do go on Ritalin, it won't help like the Adderall did at first (and still sometimes does) for my ADHD...Do you find any diff. in focus between Ritalin and amphetamines?? Also, which of the 2 do you think has more of an appetite-suppressing effect?? Thanks!

Methyphenidate has effects that are not like Dex or Adder.. and yet, there is something similar. I assume you are not abusing the pharms as you actually do have ADHD so I won't go into snorting pills or whatnot.

Ritalin is great for outputing steady linear information streams which is my biggest problem with ADHD (job here, job there, job there, everything and nothing finished.)

It doesn't work forever (like any daily use chemical compound) so usually you doctor will put you on 2x10mg then 2 20mg then 3 20mg at which point most doctors will stop (I think 80mg is the max.) Then you will go on a drug holiday or switch to Dex or Addr for a few months. I like Dex best of all those meds because it has a mood lifter but those amps are hard on the mind after a while. There has been a lot of talk here and elsewhere that all amps cause permanent changes in the brain.

Ritalin doesn't cause this problem but it has some side effect I hate. When I am coming off Methylphenidate (end of the day etc.) I become the worlds biggest asshole and go into extreme random task hyperactivity. :( Also when I'm close to a drug holiday and on 60mg I get itchy and feel internal pains, which is a sign that the drug is causing abnormal organ functions.

As for working out on ADHD meds Methylphenedate makes me want to sit and write not lift weights.. amps alway make me want to hit the gym..

Tenuate SR has been working wonders for a friend of mine. I don't find it particually euphoric but has worked for his weight loss.

I feel your pain! I was never considered heavy until the year 2000. I got real sick and went from 117lbs to 157 lbs. Although some dont consider that "fat" I thought I looked awful. I had a meth habit that landed me in rehab in 1997 and 1998, so I gave it up completly. Well, after the weight gain, I picked it back up again. When I was using, staying up for days and not eating, I drop the pounds. And then one meal I gained it all back. It was a roller coaster diet. Lose, gain!! And once again I was hooked. Now free of the monkey.
My advice for you is cut down at your carb intake, sugars, breads, pasta ect. And exercise. Yeah, the monkey will take your weight off, but without exercise and fast losing will only add extra skin. You'll be thin with about 20 lbs of extra skin. which in most cases, has to be cut off surgically. THe moral issue lies with you and we are here on bluelight to help you out. Good luck, and dont fall for the monkey! Its hard to get off your back.

Well, I read all of those, I am a dietician. I work with people who cannot loose weight. At our clinic we used to put everyone on phentermine. I used it for two years, and didn't experience very many side effects. The reason we did this was because for a lot of people it is really hard to just start a diet, and some people's lifestyles don't allow "dieting". However, at our clinic there were some people who were addicted to phentermine after a while. I take a lot of opiates and that does not help with loosing weight. I wish you the best of luck. Loosing weight is really hard to do, and people struggle. You need to find what is right for you. Of course the most safe way to loose weight is to diet and exercise, but it is the hardest. Email me if you ever want to talk about weight issues, I counsel people everyday. Take care.

I don't really understand the, "people who cannot loose weight" thing.. If you don't put food in your mouth then it can't hit your thighs.

I think people have to just fess up that they are addicted to food.

I dieted with coke for about 3 months about 1 1/2 years ago i did it 3 times a day and i always felt like shit when i wasnt on it i sudgest other methods also b/c when i stopped i went from 98lbs to 130lbs in about 2 months unless u want to feel like shit permately and never stop coke then i wouldnt try it for a diet drug...

Phentermine does wonders IMO, do I have a phentermine addiction ? Maybe, I don't think so. I still only take one tab but I do crush it into 3 peices.

dude i havnt read any of the posts but if i where you i wouldnt worry about it. im 6"0 and 258 pounds and ya my weight has made it hard to meet girls and stuff but other then that everything goes good. i just hang out with friends that can accept me for who i am and shit.lol i tried to lose weight over the summer but munchies get in my way;)

just like everyone else said, dieting with drugs doesn't keep the weight off. my friend was using meth to lose weight and she eventually quit, and then all the weight came back if not more. they sell pills at gmc that are like legal speed.. except one compound is different. you might want to look into that.. i forget what they're called

If you have ADHD then pretty much all the medication your will get (that works) will drop you to bones if your not careful.

oh shit.. :\ i was going to go to the doctor for an adhd medication.. i have the worst trouble concentrating ever. but i'm already a twig.. im trying to gain weight.. GAH :|

Personally I find it would be quite impossible for me to be in a diet by taking phentermine daily. The effects last really long and make me feel a bit exhausted.

Phentermine is an amphetamine with typical amphetamine effects tho it surely is less potent than some other amphetamines. The fact that you can get it from on-line pharmacies doesn't mean that it's totally safe. The same sites that sell phentermine usually sell also Xanax and Valium, for instance.

The New Shaman wrote that methylphenidate (Ritalin) has different effects than the real amphetamines and that's absolutely true. Ritalin makes me to sit still but snorting that stuff gives me an euphoria I've never got from any other drug. But especially when coming down methylphenidate worsen my tendencies to the pointless compulsive behaviour which is really annoying.

i used to be a little over weight until i began using meth about every weekend or every other weekend (2-4 times a month) for about 5 months straight. now my BMI (body mass index) is around 19-20). I don't really do meth, but once every blue moon now a days, but hte weight has stayed off. I suppose in my case, however, that the weight that was burned off by meth was weight i was holding from my adolescence (baby fat). I eat heatly and exercise 2-7 times a week though, depending on how lazy i am after the weekends.

But, heres my 2 cents on the weight gaining back after you quit. If you never form a habit with the meth, IE you do it once in a while, you won't gain the weight back, but thats just in my case.
