I started with opium from 16-17 as it was the only opiate around and it was quite cheap and sometimes old hippies would give it to me. I lived in a remote hippy town where quite a few people from the weather underground hid out and still do. There is no real law enforcement in that town other than for murder and pedos. Most criminals are just punished with vigilante type justice. Thieves are usually beat up by store owners or whomever they stole from. Surprisingly other than alot of fist fights and pot smoking crime was rather low in the area.
I started every drug at a rather young age and some alot younger than I should have. I was really down to try any drug I could get my hands on and when I was 14 I moved to a very remote part of main where hard drugs where very easy to get even for kids. Old hippies had no problem selling or giving you acid. If you had a job, you were treated like an adult and people would sell you weed, oc's, shrooms, acid, and opium if they felt like you could handle it.
I don't know whether it was right or wrong but I personally could never sell drugs to a youngster. But anyways I had done just about every drug in the book by 17.
But anyways it was an interesting place to spend most my adolesence and I had tried some rather heavy duty and rare drugs. Some of the people there were rather interesting especially the local hippies that were artists, musicians, former members of the weather underground, and just people who wanted to live a certain lifestyle. "Normal" people were kept out of the whole drug thing as it just took place in the park, behind buildings, and just places where no one would walk by but it was very socially acceptable to smoke weed, drink, or for kids to smoke cigarettes as people minded their own business.
The first time I did heroin I was 19 and I had only done OC's a few times. I thought it was coke as I was rather drunk and it was an off white grey color and I was doing coke with the person who gave it to me. After doing a few lines I said something about that being a bit different and the guy said "shit I thought you knew that was smack." He was very apologetic and I just said it was nbd. I ended up doing it a bit more. The guy who gave it to me was my neighbor and he felt bad about putting me on it so he would throw me some bags for free for a while. I wanted to try it and do it anyways and it was clear to dude so it was nbd. I ended up moving after getting pneumonia due to living in a really nasty apartment that flooded. Everyone else moved out after that, but I had no where to go.
After that I went to opium as my first regular opiate habit still at 19. I got into that for a bit as the price was rather cheap. There is usually a no pricing rule so I won't put the price I paid but it was cheaper than weed per gram at least for me. I did know some rather heavy duty people at that time though and would pay 1/4 to 1/5th of the street value for most drugs.
I got into pills I suppose after a few injuries and back then I could call in refills for family members and often medications would be upped. So I was calling in several for my own injuries and for 2 family members so pills were extremely easy to get. I built up a habit after a while but it was nothing I couldn't control back then.
After getting significantly injured I got on chronic pain management and for a while I sold my medication and bought heroin because I was still having trouble writing or typing and I was desperate to stay in school.
So I suppose my first opiate habits where opium and heroin. At first I saw pills mostly as a way to get money for weed, heroin, and other drugs. I ended up just sticking with pills and mellowing out and taking what I was prescribed after my dose got raised high. I only really got addicted to pills after using heroin regurally and getting a high dose. I suppose once I had to take them daily for pain well that made it a habit and I got physically dependent then.
I still prefer heroin and opium to pills but availbility, having to drive a long distance to get it cheap, and not wanting to go to jail or prison has kept me using just pills these days. I tell you, after you spend a bit of time in jail especially if you are a drug addict, you real would rather not go back, but maybe that is just me. So I really prefer not to buy extremely large amounts of hard drugs at once anymore despite the payoff of getting it so much cheaper as I really do not ever want to be looking at spending my life in prison. Its not horrific like in the movies but it is still a nasty place to be and well it can get very bad if you fuck up as there is really no room for error in prison.
