Opioids Dibydrocodeine 30mg compared to codeine 30mg help

Okay so normally I would take around 10 30mg codeine in one go to feel the fu effect due to long term tolerance. Mow my question is I have a strip of 30mg dihdrocodeine. How many of these given the amount of codeine I would usually take would you recommend taking to experience the same
 
I think DHC is a bit stronger than codeine, but not massively so. You should be fine taking 300mg. Maybe take one or two less if you're feeling cautious
 
There is some conjecture on this particular topic. The pharmacokintetics of both Codeine and Dihydrocodeine make thinks tricky. In general, a person taking Dihydrocodeine should experience an objective potency of 1.5x-2x the expected potency of their equivalent Codeine dosage.

Perhaps that was confusing. Dihydrocodeine is 1.5x-2x the potency of Codeine. You can expect at lease 1.5x and up to 2x. If you ask me, 1.5x is the most reliable expectation here.

I seem to feel codeine effects more than I do dhc... :/
Strange but maybe due to a high tolerance.of opiates. I always take max dose at once to feel what an average person would from a normal single dose. It isn't good at all
 
I always preferred DHC. I don't think it has the whole ceiling dose / mechanism that stops redosing from working, unlike codeine

The itching is far less bad as well
 
The BNF lists dihydrocodeine as only being equipotent with codeine although I have to wonder since DHC is an opioid itself, it isn't purely a prodrug. So it's likely to vary based on enzymatic activity.

DHC IS longer-acting so on a conversion chart, it may appear to be more potent as the dose-interval can be longer.

Many people have stated a preference of codeine over dihydrocodeine citing the 'lack of warmth' confired by the latter drug.

But with either, they DO produce tolerance and depencence out of all proportion to their analgesic activity. No WAY is 20mg morphine/day like 360mg codeine/day. The former even people with no tolerance might miss, nobody would miss the latter.
 
just get morphine in syrup, where i am ppl selling that on left and right (from legit prescription, sometimes idiots leave label with their details)

The issue with morphine is it's low oral bioavailability. I think it's something like 22.5% (the exact figure differs depending where you look).

I'm in that group of people for whom oral morphine has no activity whatsoever. In fact, I've been given IV morphine a couple of times (serious injuries & surgeries) and it did nothing whatsoever.

I don't know about anywhere else but in the UK at least, some people will boil down oramorph to reduce it's volume and plug it. I believe it has other stuff in the mixture making it a bad idea to attempt drying it out and injecting it.
 
Oramorph is a brand-name for morphine solution which is slightly thickened, but I wouldn't term it a syrup.

But whatever the case, you are stuck with that 22.5% (or so).
 
yes i know its just a brand, but for me as a casual user its fine, if i add klonopin to it i'm mashed but i get it that for someone who took it more often can be not enough. But DHC bioava is low also, if i had access to clean codeine i will choose it, just tired to do extraction from nurofen plus every time when i want to take it
 
Codeine is much the better option. When you say 'clean', do you mean you have access to compound medicines containing codeine?

It may just be me, but I was prescribed both codeine and clonazepam for years. It was only when I met my wife that I learnt I was having blackouts and doing bizaree things. So I went to the doctor and asked the clonazepam be substituted for clobazam. I thought it was an idiosyncratic reaction but learnt that it's actually a known issue. Possibly codeine increases the plasma levels of clonazepam.

Just telling you because there are so many reports from other BLers of people doing strange stuff on the mixture.

Maybe morphine doesn't cause that issue. I don't know because Oramorph does exactly zero for me. I've drunk two bottles of the stuff (the 10mg/5ml formulation) and the pain was not relieved one bit. It sucks when you are in pain and the prescribed medication singularly fails to help.
 
I am an expert on this.
Codeine Is basically the good old morphine, Can be great with low tolerance and good CYP2D6 metabolism.

Dihydrocodeine - onset is mild, high lasts longer, wonderfull for pain. Extremely underrated opioid. No need to metabolize.

Tramadol and dihydrocodeine are probably doctors secret helpers, pretending they are mild but in fact they are strong.

Even 37,5/325 tramadol + paracetamol makes everybody i know high for hours, even induce insomnia and energy.

My dose Is very big but with right antiseizure+antiseroronine low dose helpers it's more noticable than other casual opioids but this one Is like a hybrid of exctacy and codeine.

"officially" it's 1.5 x stronger than Codeine. It various, though. Personally, I find it more like twice as strong.
 
DHC u can easily buy on clearnet just prices are crazy

anyone knows if promethazine boost dhc/morphine same like with codeine?
 
I haven't noted much of a difference if promethazine is consumed with either. It is classed as having 'opioid sparing' properties but I have only ever stayed within the doses that are used medically. The increased seizure risk it what made me careful with that medication.

I have read many academic papers in which they highlighted the fact that promethazine has a much more profound effect on the action of methadone and dipipanone.

I'm unsure if promethazine at higher doses directly affects the action of opioids or if acts indirectly by increasing the levels of extracellular monoamines.

If it directly increases the area under the curve of an opioid, it will inevitably increase tolerance and dependence faster so if one is set on increasing the effects of an opioid, it may be safer to increase the quanity of opioid consumed as the short and long term outcomes would be the same.
