Little backstory: I have been clean for 4 years thanks to methadone but most recently had to switch to subutex because they are no methadone doctors where I moved to. I recently accepted my dream job and thought it was time to end subutex (I got myself down to 0.5 of a MG before jumping off)
Now the withdrawals are not that bad, honestly I think it's mostly mental but my doc went ahead and gave me a script for 10mg valium for any discomfort....BUT this Valium knocks me on my ass... I'll take a pill and be out for a few hours. Now obviously I can't be nodding out on a new job so does anybody know of a way to keep from getting so sleeping on valium or is there a different benzos that is less sedating I should ask my doc for?
(Sorry for long post)

Hi, Welcome to Bluelight !

I personally would communicate with your doc about using another medication besides a benzo, especially with a history of cns use. This is just my experience, I could be wrong. I'll go ahead and move your post to Drug Discussion for more support.

Congrats on 4 years! :)

At this point, you probably don't need the valium so I would just plan to use it at night if you can't sleep.

I've been taking benzos daily for years (klonopin then switched to valium as I'm tapering off now) and was also on suboxone for a few years but have been off that now for almost 2 years. As said above it doesn't sound like valium is a great idea if the withdrawals aren't that bad.

To answer your question though, klonopin had less of a sedative effect compared to valium and I had the same issue when I switched over to valium and was tired and groggy after taking my dose during the day (which was 30mg at the time). I would just avoid any benzos though if possible...

I also had flexeril (10mg twice a day) to help with the withdrawals when I went off suboxone. It made me sleepy at first but after taking it for a few days it just made me feel more relaxed but not as sedating as benzos.

As others have mentioned, if the symptoms are bearable and you otherwise have no trouble sleeping, consider discontinuing the Valium.

You can also consider chopping the pills in half and taking only 5mg at a time.

You WILL develop a tolerance to the Valium eventually so be ready for that.

I'd be stoked if I was prescribed Valium, its by far my favorite benzo.
