Am I the only person going crazy waiting to see this? I am a huge fan of the works of Romero (though "Land of the Dead" was sort of a let down, even though the political commentary was good) and this one looks to have a slightly different feel to is as a good amount of it was filmed from the first person perspective through the eyes of a group of survivors. Anyone else excited to see it??

This is the first I've heard of it. At first look I'm definitely interested, but this one looks a little teen oriented. Could he be milking the franchise too hard? What is it about older directors coming back near the end of their careers and reviving their old projects, them milking them till they're dry?

I'm concerned.

i can't even really say i like horror or gore fest movies, but there is something about zombie movies that i dig.

i'm looking forward to this.

I can't put into words how bad I thought Land of the Dead sucked. If the trailer for this movie is any indication of how the camera work is going to be throughout the film, I'm gonna need to O.D. on tylenol before seeing it, cuz that's annoying as fuck and it looks like a massive headache in the making.

but yeah, zombies; i'll prolly waste my money and see it. then come back here and bitch some more.

I didn't think Land of the Dead was that bad, but maybe the decade-long case of blue balls Romero gave me helped ease the pain of that movie. Land was produced by Universal and this is produced by Romero's indie joint so I am thinking it has the potential to be good.

save zombies, the reason I love the Dead series is because of its social criticism. the plot in Diary of the Dead has a bunch of kids out in the wilderness filming a werewolf movie until enter zombies. they then decide to record the zombie apocalypse "nothing ever happens until you get it on film."

the question is: will this be another jarring Romero social critique or will it come off to be another old man protesting about technologies and lifestyles?

hey axl, have you read World War Z yet? I'm about 2/3 done, but I've been reading it for like a month now. damn my no-free-time life. I need to just take a sick day next week and get 'r done :)

yeah, I read it a couple months ago. it is absolutely one of my most treasured reads! it is fascinating and encompasses so many different people and parts of the world during the eventual zombie apocalypse.

I know you would love it egor. after all, you are a man of wealth and taste.

actually, I think someone told me a rumor how World War Z got greenlit to become a movie. I don't know how true this is as I have heard it from the grape vine. but this would be some pants creaming news to me if true.

and J. Michael Straczynski is doing the script! wow, this is a dream come true. for those unknowing Straczynski is a comic book author god. he is best known for his work on Spider-Man.

I luv me sum zombie flicks! A funny thing happened last night. I was on Wikipedia and was lookin at the list of zombie movies and I came across this one and I was reading about this one here............... And I will answer why Romero was doing thissin herr

The film will be the fifth film in Romero's Dead series. However, in "an attempt to re-establish a lucrative franchise," the film will, technically and philosophically, be a reboot, "a rejigging of the myth [sic]" says Romero.

Nah, his films have been getting worse and worse ever since Dawn Of The Dean IMO. That's not to say they've been bad. It's just they lose a bit of charm as Romero 'progresses'.

I love the genre and he's more than capable as a director, but it's all turning into a big parody of itself. It happened with the Nightmare series, it happened with Friday The 13th, Alien, Halloween, Childs Play, Candyman, Scream, Hellraiser. Shit, even Carrie. I can't help but be pessimistic here.

I'd rather have one decent film than one decent film and a bunch of shit sequels to spoil the memory of the good one. They all sell out in the end.

so nobody else has seen this yet?

because I just did. and you know what, it almost tops Dawn of the Dead as my favorite Romero zombie flick. I questioned Romero's ability, in his old age, to create a zombie film that would satire the internet (myspace) generation. but his age did not hinder him, in fact I think it advanced his ability to sit back and critique - I should have seen that one coming.

the opening part of this film kicked ass, and we got to see the world slowly come to a halt by way of zombie infestation. everything was in this film that showcased young adults road tripping across Pennsylvania - I specially liked how the black militia was far more helpful than the white army brats who caused the kids some trouble, that was really saying something right there.

the gore was good although I there were a couple gore scenes that this film's budget really shows through. this was the worst part of the movie because budget has not affected Romero during Night of the Living Dead (which he made in the 60s nonetheless). you could tell Savinni was not in on this one because some of the gore scenes showcased some sort of computer animated editing. those scenes just looked flawed and reminded me of any low budget crap horror movie I would buy from the movie store just because it was... say, halloween and I wanted to watch a werewolf film.

besides that, this movie was excellent. my expectations were grim because it was a straight-to-DVD release but I should have known better. a Canadian actress, Michelle Morgan, was spectacular as the hard-edged Deb.

Romero delivers, but at times the computer animation gives this film an unnecessarily tacky vibe.

3 1/2 to 4 stars!
