Dexedrine & norepinephrine downregulation?

After reading a rather obnoxious page of ramblings entitled "Amphetamine addiction as a treatment for ADHD," I began to wonder . . .
Please correct me if I'm wrong. d-amphetamine causes the release of norepinephrine and dopamine. It is commonly reported that, in regards to the treatment of ADHD, it can take several weeks before the full benefits of the drug become evident. Unless I'm mistaken, long term use of amphetamines will eventually result in (permanant?) downregulation of norepinephrine. Thus, as far as the norepinephrine effects (and, consequently, periphial stimulation) are concerned, a tolerence is established.
I am now wondering if the same kind of tolerence is created with regards to the drugs effect on dopamine release... I've browsed around a bit, but most of the information neglects to mention what, if any, tolerence is built to the dopamine action of amphetamine. My natural inclination is to assume that a similar tolerence would be built . . . but that seems to contradict evidence suggesting that the drug's benefits only become evident after weeks of use.

Tolerance to a drug can mean different things...in this cause tolerance is more like the body regaining homeostasis...some sort of neurological equilibrium that includes this new exogenous psychoactive. This regaining some semblance of equilibrium does not nessessarily mean a 'tolerance' to the therapeutic *or* even all the physiologic effects. The extent of both are probably highly variable...dosing, frequency, ?,.
Doctors do not like to admit they do not know how the therapeutic effects of these drugs are created.
No one is yet certain how things like prozac do their thing. Or why ketanserin, DPT & LSD all agonize the 5ht2a receptor, but only lsd produces dwn. reg, DPT is psychedelic but apparently has no down regulation...& still maintains an afterglow-anti depressant effect.
A particular metabolite of dopamine seems to be a potent oxidant(HVA?)...increasing concentrations will of course increase oxidant load the brain. This likely plays a signifigant role in the long term cognitive & emotional effects seen from acute & chronic dosing.
