Hello, a little over a month ago I too a .1g capsule of MDA and have had devastating cognitive impairment since. I used to be extremely high-functioning, now my brain is constantly blank, I have no motivation, abstract thought, creativity, and cannot connect to anything emotionally. All i want to know is if I have to deal with this hell permanently, as it really hasn't improved since last month, and it's torturing/terrifying me. please, any help is appreciated.

Did you test it? I know it's cliche, but make sure you didn't take any bunk stuff.

Are you on any medication? Talk to close family and friends about how you feel.

You're not supposed to be living in hell. You're supposed to be happy. You have to seek motivation in a way that is aligned with what you want out of your life.

Not many people can help you here, because if you need help IRL in this way, you'd need to find it there. If you have people that care about you, take advantage of it because everyone is important to someone.

Truth be told, a month is actually a vert short time in terms of healing when it comes to the organ of the human brain. if you look at people who have suffered brain trauma, it often takes them years to recover function. The good news is the brain has an amazing capacity to rewire itself and divert functionality to parts that are still in working order. I know its scary, but there is no reason to think your condition is permanent after only one month. You will get better, either gradually or quickly, but you will definitely get better as long as you take basic care of yourself (eat healthy, exercise, keep your brain active).

But I must say you guys have really scared me off taking MDMA anymore. I can relate to a lot of the symptoms the people on this forum with long term problems describe because I have experienced most of them during my own MDMA comedowns, but luickily I have never had them last more than 5 days. But all these horror stories are making me afraid that next time I take it, I won't recover so quick (and heck, even five days is a big price to pay for a 3-4 hour high).

i'm actually so glad you said that - please, it's not worth this suffering. it's good to know i could potentially have helped you avoid that. if i ever feel like a capable person again I am going to so advocate against using these drugs - it was fun while it lasted but god, is it so, so so not worth the risk.

You already are a capable person. But yeah, moderation is the key. You probably don't feel that way all the time, right? I'm sure you can think of abstract thoughts. :) Be optimistic.

sounds like a serotonin problem to me. Lack of serotonin from serotonergic drugs is possible and time is the only cure. Try 5-HTP 200mg 3x a day see if that helps, also Vitamin C believe it or not can help. Some conditions involving lack of serotonin (mainly SSS) can take up to 6 months before you start to feel 'normal' again. Best of luck.

I have a really hard time believing that a single 100mg dose of MDA is going to cause any lasting changes. I think your symptoms are most likely psychological. Do you have any history of mental illness? Even just mild underlying depression and/or anxiety issues could have been triggered into something more significant by the experience.

Regardless, all you can do now is try to maintain good habits, exercise, eat healthily, make sure you are getting enough sleep, try to maintain some cognitive stimulation, whether from work or from intellectually engaging hobbies. Basically, just keep doing the things you know you need to do to keep your body and mind healthy and chances are you will gradually start to feel more normal. Just keep reminding yourself also that you haven't done yourself any damage, your brain has not permanently changed, and therefore you can and will recover in time.

Serotonin lets you interface with the world around you, and it's vital for expressing yourself to the extents of your intelligence. Draining it makes it hard to see patterns in things and behaviors and muster emotional energy of any kind. I've experienced this after MDMA abuse and I can definitely emphasize on how stressful it is to feel dumbed out like this but it does in fact go away.

Serotogenics are very potent drugs, and I urge you to tread lightly in the future if they affect you like this. You will recover but it sounds like you already had low serotonin before you took this drug, and now you're running on E (Ha).

It would be extraordinary for such a modest dose to have this level of a disruptive effect on somebody's brain. Two possibilities come to mind. First, did anything unusual happen during the MDA high itself? Panic attacks, etc.? Intense negative experiences on drugs can be hard for some people to get over.

Another possibility is that something is going wrong with your mental health, such as the emergence of schizophrenia. The drug experience may have triggered something that had been hidden up to now, or it might even be a coincidence that this problem happened at the same time as your drug use.

If at all possible, go see a medical professional (ideally a psychiatrist; they are actually medical doctors specializing in the brain, not just people that ask you about your childhood.)
