I am currently on a 7 day detoxer and was just wondering who else here has done this.....

Was it satisfactory? Did you drop any weight from it? Did you really feel fantastic afterwards?

I am on day 2 and already it is knocking me around a bit. I just hope it's all worth it in the end.

I did the Master Cleanse detox for 10 days. I lost 10 lbs including some muscle. Weight loss wasn't my goal at all, in fact, i had to hit the gym 5 days a week to gain back some weight. I had a really smooth detox and felt amazing towards the end. I had lots of energy and was clear headed, focused and overall increased in well being.

i believe if u had a bad diet throughout your life and doesn't exercise you will have a rough detox symtom like headache, nausea, and acne breakout. This is all normal and it's just means your body is detoxing toxins.

Not true. If you feel like hell it's because your body is starving for nutrients. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but "detoxing" is a myth. It's a billion $$ industry that is useless. Your body detoxifies itself. You may lose some weight while doing this but you'll gain it all back and then some because your metabolism has slowed down from lack of food.

Eat clean and exercise daily, that is what you need to stay healthy.

I am going the opposite way of "detoxing"
I quit all the drugs
I am consuming more calories and meat (deer, chicken, and beef) then I have ever in my life.

I weighed in at 151 about 3 weeks ago at the docs office and today I weighed in at 165. Impossible sounding, I know.

I take steel cut oats and "all natural" bulgar and throw it in water. (remember, im withdrawing from meds so moving around is a pain in the ass... this is easy enough for me to do) after 10 -15 minutes I cut up any type of meat (right now deer is the only thing i got left) large amounts of it and 2 or 3 eggs. A little salt, 10-15 minutes later I have 2 quarts of porridgey type food.

I have NEVER ate LESS vegetables than when I started withdrawing. I use to eat fruits and shit, now even looking at a cherry gives me NO desire to consume it. I am shopping at teriyaki shops around town and I finish off the entire meal without much problem. This is on top of the porridge/meat I have been consuming every day.

Today I have already had 2 quarts of porridge and a chicken teriyaki along with leftover chinese food... and I am about to feed again.

Its amazing how much I can pack in now that I'm not completely high on my DOC.

I am using the 'Quick cleanse' 7 day detoxer. For the stomach and bowel etc. So far I am finding it quite good. I am feeling fresher, but also tend to feel sick and finding it really hard to keep up with my workout each morning. I could only do 20 mins today before I felt really crook and had to lay down. It's really flushing me though.... it almost feels like bulima, but it comes out the other end instead! I swear that was my dinner last night that flushed out of me 10 mins after eating. Freaked me out a bit. But I am still alive so all must be well.

Where did you learn this? Can you possibly give me any further information about this? So are you saying I am basically wasting my time? :/

I try to stay away from toxins in general.
I think if you generally eat a very health-conscious diet, you don't even have to worry about a 'detox diet'.

Your body is excellent at detoxifying chemicals. Your liver is designed to do this. Detoxing, known as a way to remove "bad" chemicals from your body, is quite like fasting - reducing calorie intake in the hope that for some reason your body will "cleanse" itself since it is in a fasting state. I know of no information from ANY clinical studies that show either fasting or "detoxing" is beneficial. Both fasting and detoxing are simply types of dieting.

The better solution is to simply change your DAILY nutrition to include more healthy choices, and not buy into this detoxing myth. Think of it like a diet, most people who are fit know that dieting is the quickest way to lose weight, then gain more back ;). If you want to be healthy, make small - daily - improvements to your diet. Choose vegetables more often etc etc.

Yea detox is hard and when you leave out food completly (I also tried the Master Cleanse) although I was " cleaned " I was buckled over in pain most of the time from the lack of food and constannt laxatives. I find a strick work out regimine and good food, i.e home cooked and not fat and fried work best with suppliments help the best.

what are some stuff to take to detox. like whats herb do you use and what do they do?

Any kind of vegetables that contain a high amount of chlorophyll i.e. spinach, collard greens...its very good for the liver and basically anything that the liver works in conjunction with...

Cranberry Juice (not from concentrate)

Herbs:
Echinicea-boosts the immune system
Milk Thistle-cleans the liver

These are great for detoxing in a dire situation.
But really, you shouldn't need to detox at all...Lifeisforliving makes a great point. If you treat your body well, it will treat you in kind.

Detox should not be a one week thing. To think you can clear out 18 or more years of junk from your life in one week is insane. Sure it can help get you started, but everyone is right when they say a good daily food intake and exercise routine is key. You could also take some supplements like greens or blue green algae.

I disagree though with the person who said detox is a myth. That is certainly not true, a week detox maybe, but to say that detoxification is false is purely wrong. There are many herbs and foods you can eat in order to aid your body in removing harful things.

Yeah, before anyone else responds to this thread I'd like to hear some specifics of what "toxins" are in your body and how and why "detoxing" is going to remove them.

there are different herbs you can take help your bodys organs.

I dont know what junk and toxins specifically(free radicals), but surely much of the food and other substances youve consumed over your life have damaged your body in some manner. Eating healthy and getting the proper nutrients etc can help your bodys organs do their job better. I dont know what those detox kits have in them. Id go for a healthier living and eating better.

and im pretty positive that your body speeds up in metabolism when you are low on food. It starves for nutrients to it will kick up metabolism to compensate for eating less and having to get more nutrients from the food it gets.

claimjuice, "but surely"? You're making an assumption without providing any evidence. No, food DOESN'T surely damage your body in some manner. So what the hell are you talking about?

From that first link you pasted:

How Does Detoxification Work?
Basically, detoxification means cleaning the blood. It does this mainly by removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. However, when this system is compromised, impurities aren't properly filtered and every cell in the body is adversely affected.

This is fundamentally wrong. There's no such thing as an "impurity" and the claim that "when this system is compromised..." has no basis in reality.

I have a feeling that all the stress you put yourself into while "detoxing" would actually cause the body to produce its OWN toxins (ie. stress hormones).

*shrug*
