I am attempting to get into inpatient detox for heroin addiction (been in many times before, but over 10 years ago.) I have health insurance so that isn't the issue. I called three hospitals who advertise online "opiate addiction detox". When I called, I was informed that either they no longer accept people who are addicted to opiates at all, or I also need to be addicted to alcohol.
Has anyone come up against this? I do not drink at all , but on my last call I lied and said I drank a bottle of vodka a day in addition to the heroin...they then said they would return my call! 10pm -no call yet by the way.
What's happening? Any ideas?

But to answer your question, I've definitely heard of people being turned away (usually never if you have insurance). Curious why they would no longer deal with opiate addiction cases, obviously it wasn't worth it to them or they don't want to get caught up being a detox/rehab that doses out suboxone. I would assume people might be seeking out a suboxone detox in rehab and probably got overrun at one point? I don't know but keep searching there are plenty of respectable quality rehabs out there.

I was going to ask this too, where you live and your drug of choice could make a difference in the clientele they prioritize. (besides insurance of course) When I was in Florida, many of the rehabs advertised specifically that they treated opiate addiction. I knew a man who had been in several times but he had medicare and that's a guaranteed payment for them. He was an alcoholic with a big crack problem but he left out that drug and said he was abusing opiates. (he was prescribed vicodin but always sold them to support his other habit) But you shouldn't have to lie about your drug of choice, I would check into other rehabs.
 
I live in NY- 10 minutes away from Manhattan. My DOC is heroin...went back to it after 10 years sober when I started taking oxy for pain (same old story, think I would have seen it coming...sneaky disease this addiction thing:-)
Anyway, I have private insurance so I have to think they just don't want to deal with it. I called one more place, who told me that I was going to have difficulty finding inpatient heroin detox, since the new trend is strictly outpatient for heroin addicts since the withdrawal isn't "life-threatening" so doesn't require inpatient. Unbelievable.
 
Hey congratulations on making the descion to get clean and welcome to Blue Light:D Opiates do not need to be detoxed inpatient.. sure they can charge you an arm and a leg.. sometimes over ten grand.. and give you a bed and medications you can get from a GP in one office visit.. or you can hit a gp and then use all that money you saved to take a trip somewhere allot nicer to detox than a damn hospital. .. I would pick some place you have no connects and bring some good suport.. it will be way nicer;)
